A tragic incident has unfolded in Sacramento, California, where 28-year-old Andrey Demskiy has been arrested for the alleged beheading of his one-year-old son, Micah Demskiy. After the incident, a GoFundMe account was started to help raise money for the family of Micah.
With the goal set for $25,000, over $74,000 was reached as of December 23. This fundraiser organizer describes Micah as a “kind and joyful soul” who brought warmth to every life he crossed. The current campaign emphasizes that the family needs prayers and financial aid during this unbelievable loss.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) responded to a domestic disturbance call at about 4:15 AM that led to a tragedy that occurred that morning.
It was reported in a news release that the deputies went to the house on Versailles Way following a report of a physical confrontational incident. Deputies arrived at the scene and encountered a woman outside of the residence. She reportedly revealed that her husband had attacked both her and her mother. Fortunately, the mother-in-law’s injuries were not critical, and she was rushed to the hospital.
Afraid that a child was inside the home, concerned deputies tried to contact Demskiy, but he refused them entry or to surrender peacefully. Once they gained enough information that there was, in fact, a one-year-old boy inside and injured, officers made the call to forcibly enter the residence.
Once inside, deputies faced resistance from Demskiy, who became physically confrontational. After subduing him, they made a gruesome discovery in a bedroom: the severed head of his son. Investigators believe that the beheading occurred after Demskiy's wife and mother-in-law fled the home during the domestic dispute. Reports indicate that Demskiy used a knife in this brutal act shortly after they exited.
Sgt. Amar Gandhi with the SCSO said that was one of the most disturbing cases he'd encountered in twenty years of service. Gandhi told KCRA:
"For this family who has got to pick up the pieces and go on — I mean, their world is shattered."
SCSO writes:
“Detectives arrested and booked him into the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he remains in custody ineligible for bail.”
Legal consequences
Demskiy was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail following his arrest. He faces multiple felony charges of murder and assault likely to produce great bodily injury. He is currently held without bail and is expected to be in court on December 24, 2024. The case remains under investigation, and investigators are in consultation with and seeking more information from the Sheriff’s Child Abuse Bureau about this dreadful incident.
Memorials and remembrance
Memorials in honor of Micah began appearing outside the family's home, covered in flowers, teddy bears, and candles. Members of the community expressed their grief and solidarity with the family over the heartbreaking incident, WKYC reported.
