Lundyn Treese, a 17-year-old soccer player at Altoona Area High School, was identified as the teen killed in an Altoona car crash on Sunday, October 27, 2024. Family members identified the teen in a GoFundMe page set up to render financial assistance to the victim’s parents.

The incident occurred early Sunday Morning on the 10th Avenue expressway just past Ninth Street in Altoona, Pennsylvania. On the heels of the crash, community members mourning the devastating loss of the teen rallied around her family, offering support on the GoFundMe page set up by Lundyn’s aunt.

The crowdfunding campaign to render financial assistance to the grieving family has raised more than $30,000 from more than 600 donations as of Monday, October 28. The fundraiser surpassed its original goal of $15,000:

“With heavy hearts, the family announces the passing of Lundyn Treese, early morning October 27th from a tragic car accident. She was only 17 years old and had the rest of her life to live. A beloved daughter, sister, friend, and teammate, she will be missed by everyone who knew her.”

According to multiple reports, Lundyn Treese was involved in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning with two other teens. Treese was reportedly a front-seat passenger in the car driven by 19-year-old Jared Detwiler, who sustained injuries in the car.

The other teenager, who was sitting in the back seat, was uninjured. According to Altoona Mirror, the crash site was strewn with flowers, balloons, and a teddy bear in a makeshift memorial for the late teen, ubiquitously described as an innately kind individual. A friend, Alexis Gallaher, told the Mirror that Lundyn Treese was “the sweetest person” before noting, “There was no one she didn’t like.”

The outlet reported that Lundyn worked at TJ Maxx. Emily Croft, an employee at the store, described Treese as an empathetic and thoughtful person who was the first to hug someone if they were having a bad day. Croft added:

“If she messed up, she would apologize a hundred times,” Croft said. “You would tell her to stop, and she would apologize for apologizing.”

According to the Altoona Mirror, the Altoona Area High School Soccer team organized a memorial for Lundyn at Mansion Park on Monday evening.

A candlelight vigil will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30 at Providence Presbyterian Church, 2401 Broad Ave.
