Surveillance footage circulating online depicts a California nanny allegedly punching and throwing a 2-day-old newborn across the room. As reported by The New Zealand Herald, the Hillsborough parents, who are going by “D” and “T”, hired the help to look after their daughter.

However, within a couple of weeks, the couple began noting signs of “aggressive behavior” and promptly fired the California nanny. When they went back to review the footage, they were appalled to learn that she had been secretly tormenting the hours-hold child. Allegedly, she would violently shake her and beat her, among other things. The newborn can be heard wailing in distress.

The video has been doing the rounds online, drawing the wrath of several online, parents and otherwise. Here's what one user suggested against the California nanny:

"Life in prison!"

The masses online agreed:

"I hope these parents press charges on the Nanny. I would hate to see another criminal get away with it because the victims didn’t press charges," one user tweeted.
"Not shaming them but….why leave your 2 day old baby alone with anyone? 2 days….that’s still a really important bonding period. What was so important that they needed to leave a 2 day old baby??" someone else questioned.
"Life in prison. There’s no defending or forgiving this. Imagine what she’s done that hasn’t been recorded," another user pointed out.
"She clearly should be charged and be behind bars for child abuse," yet another concurred.

The comments didn't end there, as many called the parents' behavior into question:

"The parents should also be charged. What kind of parent leaves their kid at 2 days old? Rich people who pay others to raise their kids," one user asserted.
"Special place in the afterlife for this woman," another user noted.
"They hired her based on a phone interview and didn’t review the monitor footage until several weeks into her tenure?! Are they just sleeping thru all this?!" someone else asked, angrily.
"They left a two day old baby with a stranger? Is it just me or does that seem very odd?" another suggested.

There was an equal amount of fury being directed towards the parents online.

Baby's father claims that the California nanny seemed "very good" and "very legit"

The father, who is going by "T," said to ABC7:

"We all thought we could trust her. Never imagined something like this could happen. It's definitely horrifying for any parent and family to go through. Just a few days of this kind of abuse could have lifelong consequences for a baby."

The parents had brought the baby, identified as "H," home this September, and in two days, they hired the California nanny after receiving a recommendation from a friend. The father claimed that on the phone call interview, she sounded "very legit, and she seemed like a good nanny."

San Mateo County District Attorney, Steve Wagstaffe, has revealed that his team is working closely with the Hillsborough police to see what can be done. He said to the outlet:

"What struck me overwhelmingly as soon as I read the case was the age of the victim. That's what's so unusual for us. If we can convict them, for me, prison is the only answer for someone who would do something such as this repeatedly-not one time in anger or loss of self-control, but repeated," Wagstaffe said. "If the evidence supports it, this person would be going to prison for double-digit years, easily."

"H's" mother warned other parents about the California nanny when she told ABC7:

"My goal is to warn parents about this nanny. I don’t want any family, baby or mum to experience this again."

Baby "H" has since undergone a complete MRI and full body x-ray, and her parents are vigilantly watching for signs of any long-term harm. As per ABC7, the San Mateo County DA is looking into pressing charges against the California nanny in the next few weeks.
