Under Trump's instructions, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted raids in South Florida. The situation turned difficult for a man, who appeared to be in distress after his wife was taken away by the officials. According to BBC, the immigration crackdown was held on January 26, 2025, and led to the arrest of nearly 1000 people.
Soon after the raids and arrests, the person, whose name is unknown, went viral on social media. As seen in a video posted by CBS Miami, the man claimed that his wife was arrested and deported back to Venezuela.
The wife, Vianis Ramirez, lived in the US for a few years and was one of the three individuals taken from the house. The two others were men who worked in construction.
Her husband claimed she was about to become a US citizen with pending paperwork. According to Ramirez’s husband, she already had a court date but the ICE officials came and ‘snatched’ her. The couple was about to celebrate their 11th wedding anniversary on January 31, 2025. He wanted his words to reach President Trump as he said:
“If I get a chance to talk to you, man. Yo, please man let’s work something out so you may let me keep my wife here and you know, see man she deserves to be here man.”
The raid happened in South Florida’s Brownsville. Reportedly, the mass deportation raids were one of President Trump’s campaign promises. The man also said the ICE officials turned off the cameras, calling the situation despicable and embarrassing.

Several federal agencies with expanded detention powers conducted raids in cities like Chicago, Newark, and Miami. In response, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson clarified that local police were not involved and urged residents to know their legal rights.
According to immigration attorney Richard Hujber, these operations typically target individuals with criminal records or those with deportation orders. However, Hujber noted that some of those detained did not fit this profile, citing a case where a man with no criminal history and a pending marriage-based residency case was detained during a fishing trip.
As per the latest updates, Trump has ordered retaliatory tariffs on Columbia after the country refused to allow two military planes carrying migrants deported by the ICE. The President issued a 25% tariff on Columbia which might increase to 50% for goods coming from the country to the US.
Besides that, Trump would reportedly levy travel and visa bans on Columbian government officials and allies. Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, confirmed there were some collateral arrests during recent raids, involving people without criminal records who were present at the time.
He indicated such detentions might increase as immigration enforcement intensifies nationwide. According to NBC News, ICE data shows that 853 detainers were issued on January 26, 2025, for individuals arrested on other charges, with the agency believing they could also face deportation.
