The murder of Laken Riley became a point of discussion for the entire nation amid the immigration debate. Jose Ibarra, a Venezuelan resident, was recently convicted of murdering Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student, in February. President-elect Donald Trump has reacted to the sentencing of the accused and called it justice for Riley.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Donald Trump called out Jose for brutally murdering Riley. He penned,
"JUSTICE FOR LAKEN RILEY! The Illegal who killed our beloved Laken Riley was just found GUILTY on all counts for his horrific crimes."
"Although the pain and heartbreak will last forever, hopefully this can help bring some peace and closure to her wonderful family who fought for Justice, and to ensure that other families don’t have to go through what they have," Trumpocontinued.
Trump further sent his love to Laken and added how "our hearts will always be with you."
"It is time to secure our Border, and remove these criminals and thugs from our Country, so nothing like this can happen again!" he concluded.
Several Republican nominees also wore Laken's badges during their election campaigns.
The White House also offered condolences to Riley's family in a statement to FOX News.
"We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Laken Hope Riley."
"People should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law if they are found to be guilty. Given this is an active case, we would have to refer you to state law enforcement and ICE."
What charges did Laken Riley's murderer, Jose Ibarra, face?
On February 22, Laken went for a morning jog on the trail in a park on the University of Georgia campus, where she regularly ran. Unfortunately, she was attacked and murdered and her body was found in a pile of leaves. Jose Ibarra became a suspect in the case after footage of him throwing his jacket with Laken Riley's DNA in his apartment's dumpster was found.
After a four-day-long trial, Ibarra was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole. He has faced 10 charges, including three counts of felony murder and one count of malice murder. He is also charged with one count each of aggravated assault, kidnapping, aggravated battery, tampering with evidence, hindering an emergency telephone call, and Peeping Tom.
Ibarra's previous criminal history includes entering the US illegally and allegedly endangering a child.
