Jenna Lucido, Hayle Cuff GoFundMe raises over $11,000 as community rallies around two women hit by SUV near ECU

A tragic incident unfolded on Monday near the East Carolina University (ECU) campus. In the incident, two women named Jenna Lucido and Hayle Cuff were hit by an SUV. The two suffered severe injuries and are currently recovering from the tragedy.

Following the accident, a fundraiser on GoFundMe was set up to help the two women's families. The fundraiser has raised over $11,000. According to the fundraiser, both Lucido and Cuff were members of "Alpha Omicron Pi in the Zeta Psi chapter."

The incident allegedly took place on 10th Street in Greenville, North Carolina. The statement in the fundraiser added,

"The incident involved the two pedestrians crossing the cross walk near Umstead Residence Hall where a reckless driver failed to yield at the cross walk and ignored the flashing lights."

The accident, which took place near ECU, left the two victims in the hospital. Their treatment is underway for the injuries that they sustained during the collision.

"They both have made significant progress in the past couple of days, but have a long road of recovery ahead of them."

The fundraiser does not aim to cover the two women's medical bills but is "held with the intentions of assisting both girls' families during this tough time." Their parents are from out of state and will receive great help with the funds raised.

The fundraiser's goal is $15,000, and so far, more than 270 donations have raised $12,089.

In the accident, a 68-year-old Beaufort County woman named Gracie Mcroy has been charged, per WITN. The police reported that Mcroy hit the two women in the crosswalk and was cited as failing to yield to pedestrians and reducing speed.

A fellow sorority sister shared a link to the fundraiser on Facebook and hoped for Lucido and Cuff's speedy recovery after their accident near ECU. She is urging people to donate money to Jenna and Hayle.

"Monday night, two of my beautiful sorority sisters and friends survived a terrible accident at a crosswalk near campus. Both are improving but, have a long recovery ahead. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers."
"We love you Jenna and Hayle," the user added.

Many netizens also hoped that the two women would heal quickly.

One penned, "Sending thoughts and prayers for your two beautiful friends & sorority sisters speedy healing."
