US President Donald Trump made his first official trip to California, to check out the havoc caused by the recent LA wildfires. After a helicopter tour, he attended a press conference with city officials. He acknowledged that the situation was worse than it was shown on television.

While addressing the press conference, Trump suggested changing forest management practices in California. He referred to the Paradise fire of 2018, and shared his observation about trees:

“The trees were, okay, because the trees are loaded with water. They sucked that water out of the ground and this was an inferno just like I would say no different than this and it was also the wind that caused a lot of problem.”

Social media users appeared amazed by the statement. While many supported his comment, others spoke critically of it. One X user asked:

“Is he just making things up?”

Many netizens felt Donald Trump’s statement was true. An X user wrote:

“Yah, that's why so many trees are still standing around all the burnt down homes. A simple glance at the photos would inform you.”
“True! Too many trees /overgrown brush in CA is a big part of the problem. Without fires/thinning forests become unhealthy & diseased.. more prone to fire!!!” another netizen supported Trump's view.

A few X users suggested that the recent fires were not an instance of forest fires.

“How does he think trees survive? So cringe,” a person asked.
“Has anyone pointed out to him that these were not forest fires?” an online user asked.
“You are all missing the bigger point here. Guess that is to be expected,” an internet user reacted.

Donald Trump assured he would ease federal permits necessary for rebuilding losses

Trump suggested that the state of California needed to do management of the floor, assuring that the federal government was willing to provide full support. Sharing his grief for the 28 individuals who passed away during the LA wildfires, he said the firefighters did a great job despite the shortcomings they faced during their operations.

During his visit, Trump expressed sadness about the devastation but shared optimism after meeting many homeowners who were determined to rebuild. He assured that he would give out federal permits for rebuilding everything as the situation was more like a national emergency.

Trump had reportedly criticized Governor Gavin Newsom in a social media post, accusing him of blocking a water restoration declaration, and claiming that it had restricted water flow from Northern to Southern California.

Upon assuming office, the President signed an executive order to redirect water to areas needing a stable supply. Governor Newsom, meanwhile, has announced a $2.5 billion aid package to address fire damage.

During the press conference, tensions rose when Trump briefly disagreed with Mayor Bass, who emphasized the need for patience as cleanup crews work to remove hazardous materials like toxic ash, lead, and asbestos before residents can return.

The President questioned the definition of hazardous waste and suggested allowing people to access their properties immediately to begin rebuilding.
