Donald Trump has enhanced security services around his residence Mar-a-Lago. However, his security agent is a non-human entity called Spot, a robotic dog made by Boston Dynamics. The robotic dog patrols the area of Trump’s residence and is controlled remotely.
Internet personality Collin Rugg posted a video of Spot on duty while children and a few adults can be seen in its vicinity. Spot is two feet tall and four feet long and can move at a speed of five feet per second. As the video went viral on the internet, social media users couldn’t seem to hold back their comments and reactions. One person wrote,
“Instead of fetching tennis balls, it fetches bad guys. I want one.”
Social media users appeared to be in awe of Spot. While some called it a ‘hero’, others pointed out its unique features.
“I'm making a prediction that Spot will become a hero by the end of 2025,” an X user commented.
“Spot doesn't bark but watches, making Mar-a-Lago a place where technology and tradition meet,” a netizen remarked.
“Im suspecting this one won't bite the secret service agents,” a social media user opined.
Netizens wrote that security services like Spot are the need of the hour. Some X users noted how it was different from a living dog.
“This dog is great because it doesn't shed and also doesn't poop,” Collin Rugg stated.
“Robot Dogs Protecting the Trump Family 2024 keeps getting more wild!” an online user mentioned.
“We need this kinda stuff on the border. Guarding our BIG WALL! Lol,” another person commented.
Security at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago has increased after the Presidential election
A report by The New York Post mentioned that security around Donald Trump’s residence has greatly increased after the 2024 Presidential election. The security has also been boosted with the presence of Spot who has been patrolling the mansion for the last month. However, one cannot pet Spot as the robotic dog comes with a ‘Do Not Pet’ warning.
Although details about specific features are not disclosed, the robotic dogs used in operations are equipped with surveillance tools and advanced sensors to support protective measures. In November 2024, the media outlet published a photo showing Vice President-elect J.D. Vance playing with his three children outside Mar-a-Lago, with Spot nearby.
Ron Williams, a former Secret Service agent and current CEO of Talon Companies, believed assassination attempts on Trump likely accelerated the agency's efforts to adopt advanced technology for improved detection and deterrence, as per BBC.
He noted that robotic dogs are useful at properties like Mar-a-Lago, where large, open areas are difficult to monitor. Williams also pointed out that robotic dogs are becoming increasingly common in use by law enforcement and military organizations globally.
Spot's agility allows it to navigate stairs, tight spaces, and even open doors, making it a valuable tool for identifying potential threats. Priced at up to $75,000, the robotic dog features advanced surveillance technology, multiple cameras for 3D mapping, and optional thermal sensors.
