Dominique Pelicot, the ex-husband of Gisele Pelicot, has been found guilty of drugging and r*pe charges. Dominique has admitted to drugging and r*ping his ex-wife for about a decade during the recent months-long trial in France. Pelicot, who was the victim, also became a hero for speaking up against the s*xual assault publicly.
For the unversed, the assault on Pelicot took place between 2011 and 2020. While her husband drugged and then r*ped her, he also invited 49 other men to r*pe his then-wife.
The trial began on September 2 and the court proceedings were made public on Gisele's request. According to CBS, Gisele faced the men who assaulted her almost every day during the trial.
The police also found thousands of clips of the assault on Gisele. As they identified dozens of other men involved in it, many claimed that they believed the husband's permission to r*pe his wife was enough. They also said that as the woman was unconscious, she was fine with it.
As a result, Dominique was sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in jail. On the other hand, the 49 men's sentences range from three to 15 years.
After the court's verdict, Gisele Pelicot came in front of the media and thanked her supporters. She said,
"I want to express my gratitude, very profound, to all the people who supported me during this difficult time."
"Your witness, your statements, have really moved me and they have given me the strength to come back every day for these long days of the trial."
She added that she does not regret making the case public.
"I wanted to open the doors of this trial last September so that society could see what was happening. I'll never regret this decision. I have confidence in our capacity, collectively, to find a better future, in which men and women alike can live harmlessly together with mutual respect."
Did Gisele Pelicot's former husband also assault another woman?
Gisele Pelicot was not the only woman Dominique was found guilty of assaulting. The portal reported that he is also accused of attempted aggravated r*pe on Cillia, the wife of Jean Pierre Marechal, who was also a co-accused.
Moreover, he also took indecent images of his daughter and two daughters-in-law.
The portal reported that at the time of the verdicts being read out, Dominique did not show emotions. His lawyer has allegedly claimed that he is considering making an appeal in the next ten days.
