Joseph Lynskey, the NYC DJ who was pushed onto the tracks of a subway train, has thanked every one who contributed to a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe, to help him with hospital bills after the incident. The campaign raised over $182,000 for Lynskey, who was seriously injured after a stranger named Kamel Hawkins shoved him in front of an incoming train on New Year's Eve.
CCTV footage showed that Hawkins, who has previously been charged with assault, pushed Lynskey without warning. Lynskey survived the accident but suffered a cracked skull, broken ribs, and a ruptured spleen.
Following the accident, Lynskey's friends and family started a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe to help him with hospital bills and medications. On Wednesday, Lynskey broke his silence and thanked everyone who donated and helped him during the tough times.
"I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love, well wishes, and generosity over the past week. While I can't thank each of you individually, please know I will never forget the kindness and goodness you’ve shown me," Lynskey stated, adding: "A massive thank you to the first responders who saved my life on New Year’s Eve, the bystanders—especially the good Samaritan outside the train who provided comfort—and to the medical teams at Bellevue for their remarkable care in helping me begin my recovery. I am full of gratitude for every single one of you."
