Donald Trump’s Inauguration Day on January 20, 2025 is expected to be among the coldest in recent history, with maximum temperature barely reaching 21°F (-6°C), reports BBC. The ceremony, not surprisingly, had to be moved indoors.

The last time a presidential inauguration ceremony was moved indoors due to extreme cold was in 1985, during Ronald Reagan’s second term. On that occasion, temperatures were colder, hitting 7°F (-14°C) at midday. This led to the decision to move the ceremony inside the Capitol, and resulted in the cancellation of the inaugural parade.

According to BBC Weather Presenter Elizabeth Rizzini has said Arctic air moving southward from Canada will drastically lower temperatures in the capital during Trump's Inauguration Day ceremony.

By noon on Inauguration Day, temperatures are expected to be as low as 21°F (-6°C), with a biting chill in the wind. There is a slight chance of light snow showers adding to the chill, though the sun may be intermittently visible.

Netizens react to inauguration day being moved indoors

Among public reactions, there have been conspiracy theories over why Inauguration Day was moved indoors. One user speculated:

"There are assassination attempts on Trump’s life on the inauguration day. That’s why it’s being moved inside and it should be anybody who loves him. Will understand it who bought tickets as long as they get refunded. They should be fine with it. There’s a lot of threats smart."

Another X user postulated, citing security concerns as the probable reason:

"Bongino has been sounding the alarm of the possibility of a drone attack on Inauguration Day. Bongino ~ The Secret Service is not prepared for this. Trump moved the ceremony inside the Capitol Rotunda, and thank God he did. Kudos to Dan Bongino for bringing attn to this threat"

An X user wrote:

"I have a conspiracy theory. Tr*mp will be assassinated on inauguration day. That’s why they moved it inside. To lessen any big public danger, minimize any collateral damage."

Others believe that shifting Inauguration Day inside was a calculated move and had nothing to do with the cold. One X user said:

"What blizzard? 1-3” today. Inauguration Day, zero snow and cold. Below is a picture of Obama’s inauguration which was equally as cold. Trump knows he can’t match this crowd and moved it inside."

Another shared a screenshot of the weather and chimed in, stating:

"They're lying a little about the weather on Inauguration Day (to make it seem necessary that the Inauguration has been moved inside)."

The decision to move Donald Trump’s Inauguration Day ceremony indoors has whipped up a range of reactions, from concerns over security to suspicions over the real reason, although harsh temperature and biting wind chill are undoubtedly among contributing factors.
