According to Samantha's mother Lisa Miller, Samantha, who worked in Marketing, was on a business trip to Idaho when she met Aric in a hotel elevator. The duo had just gotten married a few hours before the crash.
According to multiple reports, On April 28, 2023, the couple was traveling from their wedding reception in Folly Beach, South Carolina, in a golf cart when Komoroski's car crashed into it, throwing it over 100 yards and tumbling a few times before coming to rest.
The crash killed Samantha Miller at the scene. Her husband Aric survived but was severely injured. Aric suffered a brain injury, had multiple bone fractures, and had to go through a reconstruction surgery. According to the Sun report, the two others in the cart were Benjamin Garrett and his nephew Brogan Garrett, both of whom had minor injuries.
According to The Guardian, Komoroski, 26, allegedly refused a field sobriety test forcing authorities to get a warrant to get her blood and to find her blood alcohol level. Later, it was reported that Komoroski, who was 25 at the time of the crash, had a blood-alcohol level of 0.261% which is more than three times the legal limit of 0.08%.
According to multiple reports, Komoroski, whose blood alcohol level was dangerously high, was also driving her car at a speed of 65mph (105km/h) on a road with a speed limit of 25 mph, and she tried to stop the vehicle by applying brakes before hitting the golf cart.
On December 2, 2024, Komoroski pleaded guilty to all charges against her and Circuit Court Judge Deadra L. Jefferson sentenced her to 25 years in prison for DUI causing death, the sentencing also included 15 years and 10 years for the other two charges against her, but she will serve them concurrently. In the court, Komoroski said she wished she could go back in time to undo the tragedy but since she couldn't she would live her life in regret, The Guardian reports.
