Amy Lynn Carter was born on October 19, 1967, to the former president of the United States of America, Jimmy Carter, and the First Lady, Rosalynn Carter in Plains Georgia. At just nine years old, she moved into the White House, making her one of the youngest children to live there since John F. Kennedy's children.

Amy Carter was born into a family with a very active participation in politics. Her father became the Governor of Georgia in 1970 and the family went to live in Atlanta. But things changed in 1976 when her father was elected President of the United States.

In her years in the White House between 1977 and 1981, Amy was quite a popular figure. She attended public schools which was not the norm for a president’s child back then.

Other than being in the spotlight for long, Amy has been involved in numerous public events hosted by her parents. Interestingly, she had a Siamese cat named Misty Malarky Ying Yang who stayed with her in the White House.

Amy Carter made it to the political limelight when her father's presidential administration ended in 1981. She reportedly protested against the U.S. foreign policy and its actions, for example against apartheid in South Africa or CIA recruitment initiatives. She was arrested during a protest at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1986 but the charges of disorderly conduct and trespassing were dropped.

Speaking of her infamous arrest, She Knows quoted Amy saying:

“There were, I would say, 60 or 80 cops in riot gear, billy clubs, mace, with four or five police dogs – it was really terrible. That was the final decision, of not wanting to leave those people there by themselves.”

Apart from activism, Amy participated in the illustration of her father’s children’s book titled The Little Baby Snoogle-Fleejer of 1995.
