JD Vance was sworn in at Donald Trump's presidential inauguration on Monday as the 50th Vice President of the United States. He delivered his oath with his wife, Usha, and three-year-old daughter, Mirabel Vance, by his side.
JD Vance and Usha met while studying together at Yale Law School. They got married in 2014 in Kentucky and held an interfaith ceremony where the Bible was read, and a Hindu pandit blessed their union. Over the years, the two have welcomed three children: Ewan, who was born in June 2017, Vivek, born in February 2020, and Mirabel, born in December 2021.
“My most important American dream was becoming a good husband and a good dad,” Vance stated during his speech at the Republican National Convention in 2024. “I wanted to give my kids the things I didn’t have when I was growing up.”
During the same event, he gave a shoutout to his kids:
“If you’re watching, Daddy loves you very much,” before jokingly adding, “but get your butts in bed, it’s 10 o’clock.”
All we know about Usha, JD Vance, and their three children:
Mirabel Vance was nestled in her mother's arms, who was smiling cheek to cheek the entire time her husband took the oath of office. Mirabel wore a red coat and sweater and had colorful bandages on the tips of her fingers. JD Vance's other two children, Ewan and Vivek, were also standing by their father's side in matching blue suits and ties.
Usha Vance made history this Monday when she officially became the first Indian American second lady, the first Hindu to do so, as well as the youngest woman to ever assume the role at age 39. Reflecting on the union she shares with JD Vance, she said at the 2024 Republican National Convention:
"The most determined person I knew with one overriding ambition, to become a husband and a father and to build the kind of tight-knit family that he had longed for as a child. My background is very different from JD's. I grew up in San Diego in a middle-class community with two loving parents, both immigrants from India and a wonderful sister. That JD and I could meet at all, let alone fall in love and marry, is a testament to this great country. It is also a testament to JD. And it tells you something about who he is."
Usha and JD Vance tend to keep their three children out of the public eye, which means that not much else is known about them. As for Usha, she currently works as a corporate litigator at a firm in San Francisco.
