Elizabeth Pollard plunged to her death in a 30-foot sinkhole on December 2, 2024, though her body was found four days later. She was 64. Per CBS News, she was looking for her cat in Township, Pennsylvania.

In the wake of her death, her family paid their respects via an online obituary posted in the Greensburg Tribune Review. They reflected on her passing and her love for her granddaughter, whom she began caring for following the death of her son, Brandon, 28, this January. Tabitha Pollard, Elizabeth's niece, told The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:

"Her granddaughter was her world. Wherever she was, her granddaughter was with her.”

The details of Elizabeth Pollard's untimely demise explored

Elizabeth Pollard's body was located 12 feet away from where she originally fell, Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Steve Limani revealed in a press conference on Friday, the outlet reported. Per CBS News, search crews spent days trying to recover her body, and she was found at about 11 a.m. after digging through dirt at the old mine.

Pleasant Unity Volunteer Fire Department Chief John Bacha said on Friday:

"This was quite a relief. I'll be honest with you, I felt a little defeated yesterday. It was difficult to go to bed and I wasn't the only one."

Pollard went missing on Monday evening last week, and her car was parked behind a restaurant on Marguerite Road in the odd hours of the night. At the time, her 5-year-old granddaughter, Serenity Pollard, was inside the vehicle, asleep and cold, though she was unharmed.

The police promptly began scouring the area only to discover the sinkhole, which they believe opened up as she searched for her pet. Per the outlet, search efforts totaled 80 hours, with contributions from over two dozen fire departments and more.

Per the Trib Live, Axel Hayes, her son and Brandon's twin, said “She was always a happy person. There was never a day I saw her sad until my brother died.”

As reported by People Magazine, a preliminary autopsy was executed, and Westmoreland County coroner Tim Carson affirmed that Elizabeth Pollard succumbed to blunt force trauma to the head and body, though it is unclear if she died on the spot. The magazine also reports that toxicology results and a final autopsy have yet to come out.

Tabitha Pollard added: “They were still healing, and now the family is dealing with her loss. It’s a very tough situation right now for my uncle.”

Per her virtual obituary, Elizabeth Pollard leaves behind her husband, Kenneth C. Pollard; three sons, Axel Hayes, Ken Pollard, Jr., and Nathan Pollard; a granddaughter, Serenity Pollard; five brothers, George, Pat, Rich, Jon, and Tim King; and several nieces and nephews.
