A Hawaiian woman named Hannah Kobayashi has been missing since November 8, and her family is urging the family to compound on the efforts to bring her back home. The statement comes in the wake of her father, 58-year-old Ryan Kobayashi's death by suicide this Sunday.
Per Newsweek, Ryan took his life when he jumped from a parking structure at around 4 a.m. He was in LA looking for his daughter, who has been missing since she missed a connecting flight from Maui to NY in LA. In a statement posted on social media by The Rad Movement, a missing persons support agency, the family said:
"Hannah IS still actively missing and is believed to be in imminent danger. It is crucial for everyone to remain vigilant in their efforts to locate Hannah."
Hannah Kobayashi's father says he misses her days before his demise, family receives strange and cryptic texts from her phone
In the Kobayashi family statement, they noted that while they had "endured a devastating tragedy" with regard to Ryan's death, they wanted the public to remain committed to "locating and recovering Hannah safely." The statement read, in part:
"After tirelessly searching throughout Los Angeles for 13 days, Hannah's father, Ryan Kobayashi, tragically took his own life. This loss has compounded the family's suffering immeasurably."
Hannah Kobayashi was last heard from on November 11, when she sent alarming messages to her family. Her aint, Larie Pidgeon, told USA Today:
"We started getting texts saying that she didn't feel safe, that someone was trying to steal her funds, that someone was trying to take her identity. Weird things, calling us babe, things that weren't quite the normal way that she speaks."
Speaking to KTLA in another statement, she added that Hannah Kobayashi also texted "Strange, cryptic messages—things about the matrix, it was so unlike her. And then all of a sudden, no more communication."
The day she went missing, Kobayashi sent more cryptic messages to her family, claiming that she had been hacked and "stripped" of her identity, rendering her unable to fly. She also added that she had been scammed by “someone I thought I loved.” A message read:
"Deep Hackers wiped my identity, stole all of my funds, & have had me on a mind f–k since Friday."
Per Newsweek, she was spotted leaving the airport clad in a black sweatshirt, some tie-dye leggings, and an olive-colored backpack. More surveillance footage showed Hannah Kobayashi at The Grove shopping mall located in the Fairfax District in LA on November 9 and 10.
Per KTLA, the family had also confirmed that they spotted Kobayashi on November 11 in downtown LA, somewhere near the Pico Metro Station. She was seen alongside an unknown person. Her family claims she looked unwell, and Pidgeon has asserted that “She is not safe, and she is not alone." Her phone has been switched off since that day.
Before his demise, Ryan Kobayashi said to the outlet on Monday:
"I miss her. Just want her to know that, and just want her to reach out – anything.”
Pidgeon pleaded with the public to help with the "legwork," per KTLA:
"If they can print flyers, if they can just help us do the legwork keep her name out there – the longer her name is out there the more she stays relevant."
Hannah Kobayashi has been described as 5 feet 10 inches tall and about 140 pounds. She has dark brown hair and eyes, light skin, and freckles. The family has since launched a GoFundMe to support their search and recovery efforts, and they are requesting anyone with information to contact Larie Pidgeon at 845-750-3006.
