Colwell Law Group CEO Kevin Colwell died in a skiing accident on February 8, 2025, at Gore Mountain. Reportedly, the incident is now being investigated by the New York police. According to a report by News Channel 13, state police responded to the incident around 11 a.m. on February 8, 2025, after receiving reports of an injured skier.
The skier, found in the Sagamore Trail area, had severe injuries. Bystanders and ski patrol staff did everything to save the person, but unfortunately, he did not survive. Colwell Law Group’s Chief Operating Officer, Jennifer Stevens, shared a statement following the Gore Mountain incident, saying:
“This is an immense tragedy for all of us at the Colwell Law Group. Kevin built not just a business, but a family, and the loss of his presence is felt deeply by all who had the privilege of working with him.”
The statement, posted on the group’s Instagram page, continued:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Kevin's family during this incredibly difficult time. The leadership team is focused on supporting our employees and ensuring continuity within the organization.”
The post mentioned that the firm will continue to uphold the legacy of Colwell, whose impact remains significant. The family and employees request privacy during this difficult time, and any further inquiries should be directed to the New York State Police.

The Skiing area in Gore Mountain was closed to the public following the incident
According to News Channel 13, the Gore Mountain Ski Area temporarily closed the Burnt Ridge section on the afternoon of February 8, 2025, but hoped to reopen the next day. This wasn’t the first time that an incident like this happened at Gore Mountain.
In 2016, a 65-year-old man from northern New York, Richard Bredeck of Minerva, tragically lost his life in a skiing accident at the resort. While skiing with friends on February 22, 2016, he lost control on a steep double black diamond trail called Lies, veered off into a wooded area, and hit multiple trees.
Bredeck suffered severe injuries, and despite wearing a helmet, he was pronounced dead at the scene. As per Press Connects, the trail conditions were reported as packed powder with minimal ice.
Gore Mountain is ranked eighth among the top 20 ski resorts in the Eastern U.S. by SKI Magazine, making it the only resort in New York to earn a spot on the list. The 2025 rankings are based on reader surveys evaluating resorts across 18 categories.
Gore stands out for its terrain variety and affordability, with high ratings for its challenging slopes and reasonably priced lift tickets, rentals, and ski lessons. Additional rankings include third for best value, sixth for fastest lifts, ninth for grooming, and tenth in categories like challenging terrain, overall satisfaction, and quick trips.
