Detroit rapper Dank Demoss is suing Lyft on the grounds that one of its drivers allegedly denied her a ride due to her weight. Allegedly, the driver was worried that his car wouldn't be able to shoulder the load.

Demoss, legally known as Dajua Blanding, is accusing the cab company of discrimination, noting that she is fighting for her people and to “change the world.”

“If I stand for something, I'll fall for anything. Fighting for my community, my people, and making a change in the world, not just for me, but for everyone.”

Here's everything we know about Dank Demoss' case so far

Dank Demoss, who reportedly weighs 489 pounds (approximately 221.8 kg), took to TikTok to share a video of her allegedly getting discriminated against on the basis of her weight. In the video, the driver can be seen refusing to take her on as a customer, citing her weight as a concern.

In the video, Dank Demoss can be heard repeatedly assuring the driver that she can fit in the car, to no avail. The driver, however, who has since been identified as Abraham, instead recommended that she book a larger cab.

"I can fit in this car," she can be heard saying in the video, to which Abraham responded, "Believe me, you can't." The driver apologized to the rapper at the time and even promised that he would cancel the ride himself so she wouldn't be charged.

Lyft has since apologized on behalf of the driver, though the rapper is now seeking several million dollars in restitution. She has since hired attorneys Jonathan Marko and Zach Runyan to fight her case. Speaking with Fox 2, the rapper said:

"I've been in cars smaller than that. I just want them to know that it hurt my feelings."

Marko echoed his client's sentiments in a statement to the outlet, noting that he "knew that it was illegal, and I knew that it was wrong." Lyft has also issued a statement, as reported by the outlet:

"Lyft unequivocally condemns all forms of discrimination—we believe in a community where everyone is treated with equal respect and mutual kindness. Our community guidelines and terms of service explicitly prohibit harassment or discrimination."

Demoss also took to Instagram to thank the world for its support, asserting that she is doing this for the world.

Fox 2 has reported that Lyft drivers maintain the right to turn down clients whom they see as a potential threat to their security. However, Dank Demoss' lawyers are contending that they cannot do so on the basis of physical characteristics.
