Mason authorities discovered a body that matched the description of 34-year-old Emily Allen, a Michigan mom who had been missing since October 20. In a statement, the police chief said that they do not suspect foul play, but this news has come as a shock to the entire community.
A family friend, Tyler Schmitt has now set up a GoFundMe account to support Emily Mason's ex-husband, Chris Mason, and their children to cover her funeral costs and other expenses.
On the GoFundMe account, Tyler wrote:
"Hello I am Tyler Schmitt an apprentice for local 665. I am raising money for a fellow classmate of mine Chris Allen who recently lost a loved one suddenly. This fundraiser is to support Chris and his children as well as for funeral costs. Any donations would be appreciated. Thank you."
The GoFundMe campaign has raised $8,985 so far, bringing it close to its $10,000 goal.
An anchor for WILX 10 News, David Andrews, took to his Instagram to share the news of Emily Mason's passing. He wrote:
"SAD NEWS UPDATE! A body found in Mason today matches the description of missing 34 year old Emily Allen! R.I.P. 🙏🏻💔"
When and how was Emily Allen found?
As reported by Fox47, City Manager Deborah Stuart shared that the search for Emily began the same day she was reported missing. She said that she spoke with Chris Allen, Emily's ex-husband, who revealed that they have two children together and continue to live in the same household. Chris recounted that Emily had gone for a walk on Sunday and never came back. Chris Allen said:
“It’s not out of the ordinary for her to be depressed and have bad thoughts, but it is out of the ordinary for her to leave the house without telling anybody and for her to leave the house without saying anything to me and to leave the house without any of her resources, it’s not like her at all.”
The search efforts continued into Monday, and throughout the night into Tuesday, with neighbors joining the search for Emily Allen.
"We mobilized a larger resource team, including 15 additional agencies and nearly 200 volunteers from the community,"
City Manager Deborah Stuart noted.
Tragically, police later confirmed the discovery of a body on October 22. Stuart said:
"We were able to confirm that it did match the description. We are still doing verification and cause of death, which will probably take another day or two,"
As a result of the investigation, police have cordoned off part of East Maple Street, close to Emily Allen's residence.
