Netizens react as alleged Philadelphia Eagles fan is doxxed over harassing female Packers fan

On Sunday, January 12, 2024, a man wearing Philadelphia Eagles gear was caught on video verbally assaulting a female Green Bay Packers supporter during the Wild card game. The incident was documented by the female Green Bay Packers fan’s fiance.

In the video’s subtitle, the uploader alleged the Philadelphia Eagles fan verbally assaulted his fiance, in an unprovoked attack, as she was cheering on the opposing team. In the clip, a Philadelphia Eagles fan was heard making offensive remarks toward the woman. The man documenting the incident was heard defending her against the offensive tirade.

As the video went viral online, several people identified the Philadelphia Eagles fan as Ryan Caldwell and tracked down his workplace, urging his employers to fire him. In response, Business management firm BCT partners issued a statement online condemning the alleged Philadelphia Eagles fan's behavior. The firm said they were made aware of the employee's aggressive behavior outside of the workplace and were investigating the incident.

Reacting to the statement, a social media user said:

“Good for you! But internal investigation better be code for termination for Ryan Caldwell.”

However, several social media users disagreed with the vitriol online. A social media user, who condemned the doxxing and growing calls to fire the Philadelphia Eagles fan, noted:

“He does not deserve to be fired for how he acted OUTSIDE of his work time. How he acted was bad, yes but the man does not deserve to be taken out of his livelihood”

Another social media user echoed the statement, writing:

“Yes this behavior is unacceptable, but at what point does the targeting and attacking someone's job and life cross the line that they crossed, to begin with?”

However, despite the mounting concern over the online hate culture, several social media users continued to doxx the Philadelphia Eagles fan online, prompting a netizen to write:

“Let’s not do this sort of thing. He acted poorly. That is obvious. I don’t think this is the proper way to deal with it, however.”

As the concern intensified a netizen noted the Philadelphia Eagles fan should suffer the consequences for his actions.

"For those concerned his life is ruined, people that behave this way don’t wake up one day and act like this. This man has been this way his whole life to countless people and is now suffering the consequences for it."

While high-profile individuals such as journalists, celebrities, and politicians were usual targets of doxxing, recently ordinary individuals such as the Philadelphia Eagles fan are also targeted by netizens to air out their grievances against the individual.
