Soaring prices of eggs in the US seem to have left everyone concerned. According to a CBS News price tracker, a dozen costs $4.15 at present, compared to $2.51 in December 2023, which means a 65% price hike. For most restaurants, this ingredient makes up 40 to 50% of the menu.

However, amidst the ongoing concerns about the surging prices, Las Vegas MakeupArtist, aka Stormnyx, shared an X post on February 4, 2025, writing that they had been going to Walmart daily to stock up her fridge. The post read:

“I've been going to Walmart everyday & putting 6 eggs in my jacket.”

Her post welcomed an array of interesting reactions from social media users. While some made jokes about her activity, others were concerned about potential spoilage. One X user humorously wrote:

“Don't eggspose urself.”

Social media users noted that it was a waste of money while others joked about Walmart coming after them.

“That’s just too much. Eggs do expire too. Such a waste of money on food you’re not going to eat. You’re supposed to take only the amount you’ll eat so you don’t waste money or food,” another person pointed out.
“Walmart knows they’re just waiting until you reach felony level, which is approximately 120 eggs,” a social media user jested.

Netizens joked about the situation, suggesting the fridge has a great value in 2025.

“that fridge is worth a fortune in 2025,” a netizen reacted.
“Imagine closing the refrigerator door a little too hard,” another X user noted.
“Sh*t cool until somebody you haven’t seen in a while walks up and hugs you,” an online user remarked.

Bird flu is the main reason for the surging prices of eggs

According to NewsNation, bird flu cases have led to a surge in egg prices. The bird flu impacted 136 million birds and over 13 million chickens were reportedly killed to contain the outbreak. It could take months to replace the flocks.

The price hike situation has been challenging for most diners as they needed to have an egg plate without charging more from the people. Some grocery stores have even run out of stock. The media outlet noted that there are chances for the situation to get worse. Some stores have put up a sign on the shelves that read:

“Due to recent supply shortages, fresh eggs that meet our high quality standards are limited in quantity. We appreciate your patience as we work to get all egg varieties back in stock.”

Reportedly, some stores have even placed limits on the number of cartons people can purchase to balance their supplies. According to a report by Good Morning America from January 31, 2025, the prices are expected to rise by 20% this year.

The media outlet noted that the Asian Grocery Chain had the highest price at $13.99, followed by the Regional Grocery Chain at $7.65 and the Gas Station at $6.59.
