Shortly after reports emerged stating MSNBC slashed star anchor Rachel Maddow’s annual salary by $5 million, an old video of the liberal host and conservative journalist Tucker Carlson emerged online. The video, which showed the duo co-hosting a show together, amassed over 400,000 views and a volley of comments seemingly taking a shot at the uncertainty looming at the left-leaning network.
On Thursday, November 21, 2024, MSNBC's parent company, Comcast, announced plans to spin off its struggling cable properties, including MSNBC, CNBC, E!, Golf Channel, Oxygen and Syfy. Shortly after, Donald Trump Jr shared a post on Friday, November 22, about the company putting the left-leaning news channel MSNBC up for sale.
In response to the post, Elon Musk quipped, “How much does it cost?” hinting at buying the network. Shortly after, conservative commentator Collin Rugg shared a clip on X that showed Rachel Maddow and Tucker Carlson hosting a show together. The caption read:
“Elon Musk should buy MSNBC and have Tucker Carlson and Rachel Maddow co-host a show together. Just look at this chemistry.”
The clip where Maddow and Carlson are seen debating over an issue has raised questions about their history. Rachel Maddow and Tucker Carlson did work together in 2005. Maddow, who is now a vital cog in the MSNBC machine, got her start at the network as a panelist on Carlson's show in 2005 called, "The Situation with Tucker Carlson."
Carlson hosted the show until 2008 before it was cancelled due to low ratings.
Rachel Maddow once praised former colleague Tucker Carlson
An old clip of MSNBC host Rachel Maddow and Tucker Carlson hosting a show has resurfaced online amid Comscat’s decision to spin off the network. Social media users quipped Elon Musk should buy the left-leaning network MSNBC and have Maddow and Carlson co-host a segment after the billionaire hinted interest in purchasing MSNBC on X.
Responding to the video that showed the liberal anchor Maddow and conservative host Tucker Carlson debating a hot-button political issue in an amicable manner, a user said:
“This is how America should work!”
“A show with two very opposing positions would be good, “ Rugg, who posted the clip, noted.
Maddow, despite her liberal stance, has refused to bash Tucker Carlson and even praised him in a Vanity Fair article in 2022.
“Tucker’s doing great right now. But look at Tucker’s career. The first show I worked on was his 11 o’clock show on MSNBC that nobody remembers. But he was always kicking around the business and has always been talented. It just — this turned out to be his moment,” Maddow said.
