On the first day of assuming the presidency, Trump made some big decisions, including a notable step against the World Health Organization (WHO).
Among the first set of executive orders signed by the 47th President was the withdrawal of the United States from the WHO. The “mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic” and the demand for "unfairly onerous payments” from the US were cited as the reasons for leaving the WHO.
Immediately after the President signed the order, netizens quickly gave their two cents on the decision. Many criticized the decision to sever ties with the World Health Organization. A user even referenced the recent ban and return of TikTok, as they disapproved of the decision,
“But it’s okay because he unbanned TikTok guys”

Trump divides the internet with his executive order of the US leaving the WHO
Donald Trump’s first day in office was quite eventful, with him signing many executive orders. His decision against the World Health Organization polarized the netizens, with a number of people not being on board with it.
Here are some of the users who criticized Donald Trump for his executive order against the WHO,
“the same man who told everyone to inject bleach into their skin during Covid,” a user wrote.
“Not sure what the reason is but withdrawing won't solve anything. Doors for negotiation should be left open,” another user suggested.
“Bro playing Plague Inc upgrading the Anti Cure Effort abilities,” someone added humorously, referencing the simulation game.
“This is bad right?,” another one added.
Here's how some showcased their support for the president's executive order against the WHO:
A user wrote,
“Did the WHO do anything right during COVID? I can't think of anything.”
Another user added,
“So glad ty !!! We were overpaying by at least 461 million er year.”
Someone wrote,
“I can't handle this much winning in one day 👏👏👏🤣🤣🤣”
Another one added,
“The WHO is not fit for purpose, he did the right thing. I wish the UK would do the same.”
Highlighting the sheer amount of the decisions taken by the president on the first day, a user wrote,
“Bro is on his 17th executive order of the day 😭😭😭😭😭”
Trump’s battle with the WHO is not new, as the 47th President suspended funding for the WHO in April 2020. His recent executive order also marks another chapter in the animosity between the Republican president and the Geneva-based agency. Here's a quote from the order signed by Donald Trump while determining the purpose:
“The United States noticed its withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2020 due to the organization’s mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic that arose out of Wuhan, China, and other global health crises, its failure to adopt urgently needed reforms, and its inability to demonstrate independence from the inappropriate political influence of WHO member states.”
It continues,
“The WHO continues to demand unfairly onerous payments from the United States, far out of proportion with other countries’ assessed payments. China, with a population of 1.4 billion, has 300 percent of the population of the United States, yet contributes nearly 90 percent less to the WHO.”
As hinted by the executive order, the withdrawal will not be immediate but will take some time to come into effect. The US Secretary of State will implement it according to the plan mentioned in the press release.
For those unaware, during his first term, the Trump administration had notified the UN regarding the US’s withdrawal from the World Health Organization. Joe Biden retracted the same decision after he took oath on January 20, 2021. The 47th President has revoked Biden’s decision and carried forward the original order.
