Melania Trump, the incoming First Lady, intends to divide her time between New York, Florida, and Washington, D.C., during President-elect Donald Trump’s second term, in order to remain a hands-on mother to Barron Trump, according to a source from The New York Post. She would be a part-time First Lady and a full-time mother and wife.
The source, an insider explained that Melania Trump plans to fulfill her role as First Lady but strictly on her terms. She was expected to attend major events but will largely avoid traditional First Lady activities like teas and interviews.
The source noted that winning the election had been the main event for her, while she retains control over her White House responsibilities.
Soon the news went viral, and netizens reacted to it with one X user commenting,
“Baron is in college …lol.”
A few social media users supported Melania Trump’s decision while some anticipated criticism from the Liberals.
“Melania’s mom was always there for Barron. Now that she’s gone, Barron needs family there for him, especially having to live in a “bubble”. I think she’s making great choices. Family first,” a social media user pointed out.
“Good. Barron First. He will be POTUS one day!” a netizen remarked.
“Now watch as liberals trash an accomplished woman for trying to be a working mom,” a person wrote.
Others pointed out that Barron Trump was old enough to be under the shadows of his mother.
“Melania has every right to be whatever she wants to be as First Lady and Mother. She’s not running the government, she isn’t interested in being “co-president” with her husband,” an online user pointed out.
“Barron is a grown man, but let momma be momma. Her only child,” a social media user mentioned.
“Why does a 18-year-old need a full-time mother?” a netizen reacted.
Melania Trump previously said she was not an empty nester
In a late September 2024 interview with Fox News, Melania Trump expressed that she didn’t feel like an empty nester. She shared that she raised Barron to be independent, allowing him to make his own choices. Respecting his decision, she explained that Barron chose to stay in New York to study and live at home, where he’s enjoying college life.
Melania Trump hoped he had a fulfilling experience, acknowledging that his life was quite different from other young adults his age. Reflecting on her return to the White House, she noted that this time feels different, as she now has greater experience and understanding of what to expect.
Barron’s upbringing has been divided between their residence in Trump Tower in Manhattan and the family’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. After graduating high school in Florida in May 2024, he began his freshman year at New York University this fall.
Melania Trump described Barron as a remarkable young man and expressed pride in his growth, strength, intelligence, and kindness. She also emphasized that everyone in the family managed their own lives, explaining that she wasn’t responsible for controlling her husband, his children, or even her own son.
