April Clark, the mother of two teens who have been missing for over 10 days near the Thermalito Afterbay area, has set up a GoFundMe account to help find and honor her sons. With a goal of $35K, the fundraiser has already managed to raise over $28000
On 14 December, 17-year-old Wesley Cornett (Wes) and 19-year-old Andruw Cornett (Dru) had been out duck hunting when the younger brother fell off the kayak, and the older brother first attempted to contact 911 for help but eventually jumped in the water to save his brother and also disappeared.
The rescue mission has now turned into a search and recovery operation. The Butte County Sheriff's Office reported that the search has transitioned to a more focused, ongoing effort. This new phase will utilize surface search strategies, including aircraft, drones, boats, on-land vehicles, and K9 units to cover a wider area and continue the search. The statement said:
"Current search methods exhausted (sonar, divers, etc.) • Shift to Continuous/Limited (surface search using boats, drones, aircraft, K9s, and on-shore vehicles)"
April Clark's plea on the GoFundMe account
The GoFundMe account set up by April Clark mentions that she is raising funds to search for her two boys. She knows she might have to lay Andrew and Wesley to rest. Clark wrote:
"Im asking for help I drive 45 miles out everyday to search for my boys and some family is staying out there every night. The Sheriff is saying this is now a search and recovery so i will have to also plan to lay my two boys to rest."
She continued:
"This is hard for me to write as im beyond broken into so many pieces if you can please find it in your heart to donate and help our family find and lay my handsome two young boys to rest any amount of support will forever be blessed for our family."
Clark provided an update on the GoFundMe account, sharing that a donation matching offer has been made by 'Nana Debbie Job work Toyota Amphitheater,' meaning they will match every dollar donated to the GoFundMe campaign for her boys. She encouraged people to donate, even as little as a dollar.
