"Anything for clicks" — Internet condemns X user posting footage of a person on fire walking out of Philadelphia plane crash site

In the wake of a small medical transport plane crashing into structures in north-east Philadelphia on January 31, a video that shows a man emerging from the flames with his clothes on fire is going viral.

The video has drawn the ire of the internet, with scores online questioning why the person behind the camera would continue filming someone who needed help. The video starts off by capturing the flames, though, at one point, the man on fire emerges, and while the video captures him for a few seconds, the camera drops and cuts off abruptly.

Users have since been relentlessly ripping into the person who took the video of the Philadephia plane crash. Check out what this one user (@ProudCanadaDad) said, for instance:

"Almost as bad as the guy reposting it. Anything for clicks. We have failed as a species."

The comments didn't end there, as even more chimed in:

"I mean the dude filming didn’t know someone would walk outta the f*cking flames. From the camera jerking away, the person filming probably was in shock. Also jet fuel burning around, not sure there was much anyone could do," one user defended.

"How's dude just walking around? Does nobody remember stop drop and roll?" another questioned.

"As sick as sharing it to make a profit off of it?" someone else echoed.

"It’s terrible. All for views. instead of actually going to help people they’d rather sit and record," yet another asserted.

Users online were visibly teeming with opinions:

"Welcome to the age of social media. People do more for clicks than their neighbor," someone stated.

"Two things. 1. As the guy comes into view, the phone goes down and turns off, so who knows what the person did after that. 2. Are you any better for posting this to try to get some views and engagement?" one user asked.

"someone who doesn't know a human is about to appear out of it. How would anyone know someone would walk out of that in advance? you expect that someone to magically KNOW that while filming massive flames? stop that. then the phone goes down probably to .....help," yet another noted.

"They put down the camera pretty quickly after seeing that... are you going to pretend a news crew wouldn't have filmed it as well had they been there?" someone noted.

While scores online did ridicule the man for filming the aftermath of the plane crash, some did defend him by pointing out that he likely didn't expect someone to emerge from the flames and that as soon as he did, he stopped filming. Users did, however, ridicule the person who uploaded it, accusing him of doing it for clicks.

The plane crash took place on Friday evening, leaving homes, vehicles, and even individuals blanketed in flames. At the time, the plane was on a medical transport mission, with a mother and her child, who was the patient, on board. There were four crew members alongside them as well, BBC has reported.

All six of the people on board were Mexican, the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed on X.

"The airline responsible for transporting the passengers of the plane that crashed in Philadelphia, United States, confirmed to @ConsulmexFila that six people of Mexican nationality were traveling on the aircraft," the statement reads in Spanish. "@ConsulmexFila personnel are in contact with relatives and will provide all the required consular support and assistance, and will be on the lookout in case there are more compatriots affected in the vicinity of the accident."

Per the outlet, six people who were injured due to the plane crash were treated at the scene, three of whom have since been released. However, details about the remaining three remain unclear.
