A video of George Santos being hit with a milkshake has been making headlines for a while now. The incident took place at New York's Times Square and became the talk of the town as netizens called it assault. However, the former Congressman has now revealed that it was a staged video released for the promotion of his upcoming podcast.

In the video, an unnamed person begins recording as he goes after George Santos, saying, "This guy has got [the] audacity to show his face." As the 36-year-old turns to him, he throws a milkshake at him and asks, "How do you like that?"

While netizens widely criticized the video, Santos recently opened up and revealed that the incident was staged.

Via Twitter, the former Congressman said,

"Today a video has been circulating of what may look like an assault. I just want to clear it out, it was not. Now the video was recorded a couple of months ago in anticipation of a very long projected promo campaign that was going to be a part of a multi-video situation for the launch of the podcast Pants on Fire with George Santos."

However, Santos and his team decided not to continue the campaign as it would have been insensitive during the current concerning situation. The former Congressman allegedly hinted at the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson's murder, which took place on December 4.

Santos is now facing massive backlash for staging such a video.

Netizens criticize George Santos' latest staged video

The comment section of Santos' latest video on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) is filled with comments condemning his video. An X user wrote,

"Why did you wait all day to address it? Clearly you liked the attention."

Santos responded,

"No… I didn’t… I didn’t even engage… I was mainly off all day and had to drive from PA with 4 dogs and a packed car and when it hit my raider my car had broken down on i80 so that was fun… 2 hrs in the mechanic…. Dealing with dogs, cold… angry husband plus other things going on for a launch party… so yeah not the case."

Another one penned,

"Another fake hate crime. When will these people learn."
"Have to say this is a bizarre excuse. Tons of people supporting you & felt bad for you. Feeling bamboozled by George. Crazy," wrote a third one.

For the unversed, George Santos was accused of making false statements about his background. In December 2023, he became one of the only six members who were removed from Congress. However, Santos pleaded guilty to identity theft and fraud charges. He later admitted them.
