A nationwide ban on TikTok may be imminent, and in retaliation, users are turning to another Chinese app called RedNote instead. The Supreme Court is looking to uphold a law that bans the platform, citing security concerns involving its Chinese-based parent company.

Users have been opposing this ban, claiming their right to free speech is being infringed upon. And, truly, they are flocking to RedNote to make their point instead. News of the same has since broken out on X, drawing varied reactions from many. Here's how one user reacted:

"Americans are so damn petty lmao. Congress goes after TikTok so everyone goes to download RedNote. The Chinese version, we're all like data be damned, TAKE IT."

The chatter in the comments section was visibly abuzz:

"Rednote is actually pretty satisfying, I’m about to learn mandarin just so I can understand the functions of the app," one user jokingly shared.
"Since TikTok is getting banned I said f*ck it and downloaded the actual Chinese version, RedNote. It’s fun over there. If you use the hashtag TikTok refugee, it’s very easy to find community and doomscroll to your hearts content!" another chimed in.
"Yalll dear I say …………. It’s kinda giving on RedNote ! I’m crying at how many Americans are over there ! I have Chinese people in the comments welcoming us over !" a third person echoed.
"Just created an account on rednote. If the government claims they’re banning TikTok cause they think China is stealing our data then I might as well go straight to the source," another user quipped.

Notably, the comments didn't end there, as X was inundated with opinions, memes, and reactions:

"You guys xiaohongshu/rednote is the third most popular in social networking on the app store charts because everyone wants to protest the stupid tiktok ban. lmaooo," one user pointed out.
"With the TikTok ban looming, Americans are flooding “RedNote” and all the Chinese people that’ve been on the app are probably like WTF IS GOING ON," another jested.
"I think the funniest possible outcome of the TikTok ban is everyone moving to REDNote/Xiaohongshu. Task failed successfully ig," yet another echoed.
"Ngl that REDnote app actually looks good we just need a bunch of Americans on there to make it better, " someone else weighed in.

Scores online were visibly displeased with the idea of a ban on TikTok.

All we know about the ban on TikTok: When to expect it, is it permanent, and more

Reportedly, the Court's nine justices heard the oral arguments just this Friday, and a decision is expected to be made in the coming days. Should the ban be imposed, it needn't be a permanent one, as TikTok's parent company ByteDance has the option to sell to a non-Chinese company.

If they don't, they will be required to cease all operations by January 19. BBC reports that the company has affirmed they won't be selling its platform, which boasts well over 170 million users.

Nonetheless, users are protesting the idea of a ban, arguing that it infringes on their First Amendment rights. However, BBC reports that the US government countered these claims by alleging that without the ban, China could use the app to mine data and spy.

Should the ban on TikTok be imposed, all app stores will have to take the app down? For those who already have it on their phones, accessing it will likely be difficult, unless a VPN or proxy server is used.
