Caroline Kennedy, the eldest daughter of JFK and a former diplomat, lambasted her cousin, RFK Jr., in an open letter just hours before his Senate approval hearing, after which he is set to become Trump’s top health official.
Caroline's son, Jack Schlossberg, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a video of his mother reading her letter aloud, calling her 'courageous' for speaking out against her cousin.
With having spent much of her life in the limelight, one aspect of her life that many are curious about is her marriage to Edwin Schlossberg. As the daughter of American political elites, Caroline has carried forward her family’s legacy of public service and diplomacy with her husband playing an important role.
Caroline Kennedy: A legacy of challenging political dogma
Decades after their White House years, the Kennedy family continues to shape American politics. The legacy of President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jackie Kennedy lived on through their late son, John F. Kennedy Jr., and upheld by their daughter, Caroline Kennedy.
With much of her life spent in the public eye - as an attorney, diplomat, and author, Caroline was almost 3 years old when her father was elected president of the United States and was just 5 when he was assassinated. However, public life was not her initial choice.
Early Years
After college, Caroline worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, where she first met her husband, Edwin Schlossberg, a museum exhibit designer, author, and entrepreneur. She soon graduated from Colombia Law School and has been working with her family's foundation ever since.
At the dawn of the 1990s, Edwin and Caroline welcomed their children—Rose Kennedy Schlossberg, Tatiana Celia Kennedy Schlossberg, and John Bouvier Kennedy "Jack" Schlossberg.
Foray into politics
After leading a quieter life behind the scenes, Caroline forayed into diplomacy in the early 2010s when she first served as the U.S. ambassador to Japan between 2013-2017 and then to Australia between 2022-2024.
Caroline and her son, Jack, have also stepped onto the political stage together in recent years. The mother-son duo appeared virtually at the Democratic National Convention in 2020 and was instrumental in Joe Biden's presidential campaign.
Life today
Despite being part of one of America’s most famous families, Caroline and Edwin have managed to strike a balance between public service and personal privacy. As of writing this article, Caroline Kennedy continues to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to Australia, a role she took on in 2022 under President Joe Biden’s administration.
Her husband Edwin, meanwhile, remains actively involved in design projects and writing and stays out of the political limelight. Their children too have maintained a private life, but they have increasingly shown interest in public affairs and advocacy, continuing the Kennedy tradition of leadership and service to the nation.
