Over the years, many General Hospital fans have wondered who’s wealthier: the evil Cassadines, the Corinthos crime family, or the Quartermaines. Each is extremely wealthy in their own way, so we’re going to break it down and see which is the richest.
The Cassadines
Descended from the Romanoff royal family that was part of the Russian aristocracy, the Cassadine family escaped to Greece when the Bolshevik Revolution hit in 1917, avoiding the terrible fate that other nobles suffered. They used their money to build up a vast economic power base there. Some Russian nobility is said to have garnered upwards of $300 billion, and with only one percent of the population being wealthy, that number inflates to almost ten times that amount. But the Cassadines were wise and grew their money.
In Russian nobility, wives were also regarded as nobles and held significant power. If the husband went away to war or died, the wife assumed control of the family’s assets. This explains how Helena Cassadine—who was originally played by Elizabeth Taylor, and then later Constance Towers—took control of her family’s vast fortune after the death of Mikkos Cassadine (John Colicos). Mikkos, of course, was a megalomaniac who wanted to blackmail the world with a weather-dominating device. His plan backfired when Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) tossed Mikkos into one of his own cryogenic freezing chambers.

So, a conservative assumption would be that the Cassadines have two percent of that $300 billion, which would mean their net worth is approximately $6 billion.
The Corinthos Crime Family
In modern times, the top two wealthiest mobsters ever were Amado Carrillo Fuentes at $25 billion in the 1990s, and Pablo Escobar with $30 billion as of 1993, according to Market Realist. In the 1920s, Al Capone raked in about $100 million per year, which in 2016 dollars equals $1.3 billion. As of 2010, total US money earned by organized crime reached $300 billion. Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) on General Hospital controls the Northeastern Sea Front.
If you figure that his territory is one-tenth of all the organized crime in the country, then Sonny’s net worth would be about $30 billion.
The Quartermaines
The Quartermaine family first appeared on General Hospital in 1977 and was comprised of patriarch Edward Quartermaine (then David Lewis), his wife Lila Quartermaine (Anna Lee), and adult children Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon) and Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot). Known for their constant infighting, the Q’s run a pharmaceutical company called ELQ—an abbreviation of Edward Louis Quartermaine.
As of 2022, the total US pharmaceutical revenue was $1.48 trillion. In 2023, several companies such as Novartis, AbbVie, and Johnson & Johnson averaged $53.5 billion in revenue, putting them in the top 50. Even if ELQ fell a little outside that list, they would still be earning nearly $50 billion per year, making the Quartermaines the wealthiest family in Port Charles.
So, despite illegal gains and old money, the Quartermaines are the clear winners by far.
