Because several ABC soap operas including General Hospital and the canceled All My Children and One Life to Live all exist in a shared universe, characters have often crossed over from one show to another. Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) crossed over to All My Children, as did her twin, Dr. Alex Marick. When One Life to Live was canceled in 2011, several characters migrated to General Hospital, including Todd Manning (Roger Howarth), Starr Manning (Kristen Alderson), and John McBain (Michael Easton). But because of a rights dispute with production company Prospect Park, the characters had to be removed from the canvas, with many of the actors being recast in other roles.
All My Children’s Walt Willey, who played Jackson Montgomery, crossed over to General Hospital in August 2023, reprising that role. Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) has been mentioned on GH but has never made an actual appearance. Fans hold out hope that she’ll show up one day, perhaps even becoming a regular character on the series.
Why did General Hospital name drop Susan Lucci from All My Children?
As far back as May of 2018, Erica Kane was mentioned. Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) was shouting on the phone while working at Crimson magazine that she didn’t fear Erica, despite her wrathful reputation. Fast-forward to the July 26 GH episode where Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) was supposed to have a meeting with Erica, but her then-boss Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) had canceled it because of important matters he urgently needed to discuss with her.

Clearly, mentioning Erica’s name means that the show is setting things up for another character crossover, but no news of that has been reported yet. In 2020, it was announced that Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos were developing a reboot of AMC called Pine Valley—named after the town in which the show took place. In February 2022, People reported that Lucci told them that she was looking forward to the reboot, explaining:
"There has been movement. I wish it was a quicker movement, but yes, everything in terms of being in the right hands, as far as I know, would be in place."
Fans feel that Lucci and her storylines would be a great addition to GH if the reboot never materializes.
Who is Susan Lucci on All My Children?
Erica Kane is a scheming, powerhouse entrepreneur who’s been married several times, including to the aforementioned Jackson. She’s been involved in many shady scenarios including blackmail, adultery, stabbing, and even murder, just to name a scant few. She had an abortion, and she even once fought a grizzly bear, so her antics would make her a good match for Port Charles.
During her time on AMC, Lucci was nominated a total of 21 times for a Daytime Emmy in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category. Her only win was in 1999, much to the delight of her fans. She went on to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023. A return to GH could perhaps make her a contender once more for the much coveted Emmy Award.
How can Susan Lucci appear on General Hospital?
Lucci’s Erica would easily be able to slide into Port Charles on General Hospital. She’s owned a couple of cosmetics companies over the years, and while the nature of her business when her name was dropped has never been mentioned, it’s possible she could be a rival for Lucy Coe’s company, Deception Cosmetics. No matter what her business venture, seeing Erica go head-to-head against Lucy, as well as Lucy's partner Maxie, would be highly entertaining and plant the seeds for many more stories to come. The possibilities are endless, and fans would be ecstatic if that ever happened.
