Tiny Little Earthquakes — A miracle at Monica's house: General Hospital Two Scoops for the week of January 13, 2025

For nearly 50 years, Leslie Charleson's Monica Quartermaine has been a General Hospital mainstay. Although the last time fans saw the beloved character and actress was at the end of 2023, she's never been far from our hearts and minds.

On January 12, 2025, Charleson passed away at the age of 79 following several years of health issues. However, the universe made sure she wasn't forgotten. Monica became the theme of this week's Quartemaine and Corinthos drama in scenes that were written and produced before Charleson's death.

Monica's greatest joy and heartache

Jason Quartermaine may not have been Monica's biological son, but she raised him from the time he was a baby to the time he started college as a pre-med student. In fact, some would say that Jason was Monica's favorite son. He was her golden child while AJ was her troubled child — until AJ's troubles broke Monica's heart forever 29 years ago this month.

On December 29, 1995, Jason got in the car to stop his brother from driving drunk, changing the face of General Hospital forever. When he woke from a near-fatal accident weeks later, Jason had no memory of who he was. It wasn't run-of-the-mill soap opera amnesia. Instead, Jason was brain-damaged. He lost his memories and his ability to think and feel like so-called normal people. He didn't know his parents, wanted nothing to do with being a Quartermaine, adopted the last name Morgan, and broke both of his parents' hearts.

Through the years, Jason grew closer to select Quartermaines, including Emily and Lila, but it turned out his special bond with his mother never broke. He might not have remembered her raising him, but his love for her seemed instinctive.

As for Monica, she always dreamed of having her son back whole, as she did in 2011 when she dreamed of Alan being alive and Dr. Jason Quartermaine joining them for dinner. Monica learned to accept and love this new version of Jason even after she saw him choose Sonny and Carly above his family over and over again. All that changed this week.

Tracy becomes Monica's biggest champion

For much of those 50 years that we adored the antics of Monica Bard Quartermaine, we also adored the fascinating — and often comical — relationship she had with her sister-in-law, Tracy Quartermaine. Monica and Tracy could trade barbs with the best of them, always sparred, seemed to hate one another much of the time, and oddly came to a terse but tender understanding in 2017. Tracy decided to leave Port Charles, allegedly for good. When she said goodbye to Monica, there was an unspoken love turning Tracy and Monica from enemies to frenemies.

As the Port Charles week began, Tracy had a girls' lunch with Stella in the Quartermaine solarium, where she dug into her lifetime of history with Monica. She still had a lot to say about Alan giving Monica the house all those years ago, but her affection for her sister-in-law was apparent. That affection would become the theme of the week as the Quartermaine and GH dynamic saw a seismic shift.

Welcome back, Jason Quartermaine

For months, Jason has been inching his way back into the Quartermaine fold while pulling away from Sonny. When Jason decided to move back home after 29 years to be there for Danny after Sam died, we let out a cheer of joy, as we are sure Monica did from upstairs. Not long after, Tracy told Jason he was more of a Quartermaine than his brother Drew. Jason oddly agreed.

However, this past week, Jason solidified his place back in the family fold when he did what Monica and a large part of the audience have wanted him to do for the past three decades. He said no to Sonny. For Monica's sake.

When Sonny ordered Jason to go upstairs and fetch Willow's kids, Tracy looked into her nephew's eyes, put her hand on his cheek as his mother would do, and asked Jason not to break Monica's heart again. She needed her great-grandchildren with her. Tracy calmly asked Jason to choose his family for once in his life. And he did.

Jason's decision to disobey Sonny and let Wiley and Amelia stay in Monica's house caused the fandom to lose its mind. It was such a quiet moment, with a subtle look of shock on Tracy's face and tears in Jason's eyes. However, it was one of the biggest moments in GH history. It was such a big moment that it nearly gave Sonny a heart attack — literally. There was a week when Jason would choose Monica. It was miraculously fitting that it was this week of all weeks.

Tracy goes to jail — for Monica

Tracy wasn't finished. She was going to defend Monica's right to have her great-grandchildren around her till the end. The next day, she put Carly in her place. For the last few years, Tracy has been the only one to point out how odd it is that Carly just waltzes in and out of the Q mansion as if she owned the place.

Tracy reminded forgetful fans that Carly essentially destroyed Monica's life, along with Sonny. The Corinthos couple kept Michael away from the Qs for years. They not only ruined AJ's life, but Sonny shot and killed an unarmed AJ in cold blood. They also have had Monica's other son, Jason, doing their illegal dirty work for close to 30 years. It was a well-needed history lesson that explained why Carly should be physically barred from Monica's house for the rest of her life.

By Friday, Tracy still would not budge. Instead, she was arrested for not handing over Willow's kids when Marty arrived with a court order. In fact, it was Congressman Drew who ordered the arrest, which brings us to...

Drew will forever be ewww

Monica adopted Alan's long-lost son and Jason's twin when he was an adult and she just might regret that decision. We know she kicked him out of the house for sleeping with her grandson's wife. How will she feel knowing that her son had her sister-in-law arrested?

We're sure Monica wouldn't be pleased to learn that Drew is essentially an emotionally manipulating stalker now who does everything in his power to make sure Willow does what he says because he says so. Drew knows all, at least according to Drew — and, unfortunately, Willow.

Willow spent much of the week in a state of cruel panic. She knew Drew advising her to keep Carly and Sonny away from her parents to get her kids back sounded off, but she did it anyway. After all, Drew allegedly saved her life (he didn't), so anything he says goes — at least in Willow's warped mind.

Both Carly and Nina were actually in agreement that Willow has become Drew's puppet, hanging on every word he says, and doing everything he tells her to do. Watching Drew manipulate Willow and Willow look at him like he walked on water was both painful and disturbing. It was just a relief that every other woman around Drew this week told him exactly where he could go, although some were nicer about it than others.

Drew...GET LOST!

When Nina slammed the door in Drew's face, cheers could be heard throughout the fandom. We were sad when Nina relented and let him in. Then, she read him for filth in a cathartic release of rage we all took in with joy.

When Drew visited Alexis and told her that he thought Willow would make the perfect new mother for Scout, the look on Alexis' face gave us life. She gazed at her former son-in-law as if he had two heads while he breathlessly ranted about how real and wonderful his relationship with Willow was. Alexis knows there will soon be trouble on her hands. Will she have access to her granddaughter? Well, she's not quite sure, but Curtis warned her to be ready for whatever mess Drew causes next.

Jordan had to get in line, but when she read Drew for filth, it was glorious. Drew even thought she had come to his rescue when he and Cody nearly came to blows, but nope. Jordan saw everything that happened and knew Drew was the instigator. As Drew defended every move he has made of late, Jordan tore into him over his atrocious behavior and betrayal of Curtis. Sadly, it went in one ear and out the other because his very next move was to have his aunt arrested. Yep, Drew is ewww.

Witchy Weeping Willow thinks for herself

Once Willow didn't see Drew for a whole 12 hours or so and instead sat down with Chase, a much more reasonable man, her brain started to seep back into her head. She even had a (very) rare moment of self-awareness. Willow liked heroes and has been searching for one since Dawn of Day. Chase, the first (and most stable) man Willow loved after leaving the cult she grew up in, begged to differ.

Willow was searching for a family because she never had a real one as a kid. Willow thought about that for a hot minute and decided Chase was right. She also decided that she could make her own decisions without Drew loudly whispering in her ear. She gave Carly and Sonny permission to see their ailing son who had third-degree burns over 40 percent of his body. How kind of Saint Willow.

Sadly, Drew will be back by her side on Monday as Willow once again becomes a panicky mess who can only do what her handler advises. Sigh.

Triple L Detectives?

Remember Triple L diner way back in the day? That little eatery that Luke and Laura owned when Lucky was a kid. Well, now it looks like we have the Triple L Detective Agency. Lo and behold, Lucky is a part of that, too.

After Cyrus injected Digitalis into Michael's I.V., Isaiah realized what had happened and administered an antidote. Lucas ran straight to Elizabeth with the news. Liz was off the hook. Since she was suspended from her nursing duties, she couldn't been the one to cause Dex's and Sam's deaths with the Digitalis.

Amazingly, when Liz, Lucky, and Lucas put their heads together, they deduced that Cyrus had to be the culprit. They just had to prove it. That led to a dinner date for Lucky and Liz. They enjoyed an evening at the Port Charles Grill so they could watch Cyrus bus tables — and get hauled down to the police station. Liz was still determined to get close to Cyrus and didn't take kindly to Lucky ordering her not to. Is Lucky trying to channel Drew, or is he just his old controlling self? We think Elizabeth is now mature and savvy enough not to ever again do what Lucky tells her to do. After all, she has a crime to solve because the other amateur on the case? Woo boy.

Josslyn, stick to environmental science

Josslyn thinks she can solve Dex's murder. Anna begs to differ. Did you not want to zip that girl's mouth tight when she ordered Anna to arrest Cyrus with no actual evidence of wrongdoing and then ordered her to keep him detained at the PCPD?

Anna sure did, especially when Josslyn yelled in Cyrus' face and gave away the game. He now knows he is a suspect in Dex's murder, which means that Carly might have another kid in the hospital again soon. Good job, Joss.

Til next week, GH fans, when we get to watch Tracy move heaven and Earth to make Monica happy in her house.
