General Hospital's Jason has been slowly returning to the Quartermaine family fold and the man he once was before the 1995 accident that left him brain-damaged and turned him into Jason Morgan.

Since then, Jason (Steve Burton) has been forever loyal to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), the mobster who took him under his wing and showed him how to be an organized crime hitman. In fact, Jason has chosen the needs of Sonny and Carly (Laura Wright) over the needs of his family, the women he has loved, and his own children. However, all that changed on the January 15 episode.

Jason was left with the choice of marching upstairs and getting Michael and Willow's children just as Sonny had demanded or letting the children stay and bring his mother joy. Tracy stressed how much Monica needed her great-grandchildren with her after all she had lost. She reminded Jason how much he had hurt his late father, Alan (Stuart), and his late grandmother, Lila (Anna Lee). She asked him to choose his family for once, and he did. When that seismic moment occurred, the GH fandom wept and rejoiced.

Fans could barely believe that Jason chose the Quartermaines...for the first time in nearly 30 years.

X (formerly Twitter) user@MarcusST2013 was blown away by the moment, tweeting, "Jason actually just said NO to Sonny?!! Did I just see pigs flying??"

@lifesajourney09 echoed those sentiments, writing, "It's been over 30 years and Jason finally chose The Quartermaines over Sonny. I'll be damned."

Longtime GH fans feel a right has finally been wronged now that Jason defied Sonny for Monica's sake.

"Jason done picked Monica over Sonny. The world is healing," tweeted @iamsskye1.

Multiple fans saw little flashes of a younger Jason during his scenes with Tracy, prompting @rodrigosworld81 to ask, "Jason Quartermaine, is that you baby?"

@TheMissEbby saw the scenes as pure soap.

"#GH is soaping like soaps should SOAP!!" she wrote. "Jason chose QUARTERMAINE. And almost cried with emotion for his mother-- awe Monica! Against Sonny and Carly. Tracy was SHOOK! I was shook. It was glorious!! Steve Burton was brilliant and opened Jason up to so much more story."

Tracy and Jason's scenes also gave us performances that broke our hearts and made us remember what soaps are all about. GH fans couldn't stop raving about Jane Elliot and Steve Burton's quiet but emotional moments.

"Jason sided with the Quartermaines over Sonny? Consider me shooketh!,"@vicksvapor77 tweeted. "Beautiful work between Jane and Steve today."

"'You broke your father’s heart, @expressrealism wrote, quoting Tracy. "'You broke your grandmother’s heart. Please don’t break your mother’s heart, too. For once in your life, don’t choose, Sonny. Choose family. Choose us.' Jason and Tracy! Amazing! Thanks Jane Elliot and Steve Burton for bringing it!"

Finally, @Julie_foxy can't believe they turned on GH just to see these amazing moments.

"Jane Elliot is on a whole other level," they wrote. "'Tracy: Come on, for once in your life, don't choose Sonny. Choose family. Come on, choose us.' Jason embracing his Quartermaine side. I'm here for this. Imagine me turning on at random and seeing this scene."

It's a new day in Port Charles, indeed. A day that legions of fans have been waiting for since Jason woke from his accident 29 years ago this month.
