General Hospital fans still can't believe what they witnessed on the January 13, 2025, episode when Willow tried to assert herself in a misguided effort to get her kids back from Carly. While Willow thought she could speak for herself, Drew decided she couldn't. Somehow, that only strengthened her hero worship of this domineering man.
Willow's cult mentality takes hold
Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) was desperate to get Wiley and Amelia back, so she listened to Drew (Cameron Mathison) against her better judgment. Rather than trying to reason with Carly (Laura Wright) and Sonny (Maurice Benard), she blackmailed them, something Willow would never have thought to do on her own. With Drew's prompting, she exerted her medical proxy power and told Carly and Sonny that she would be making all of Michael's (Chad Duell) medical decisions, including who could see him.

When Sonny asked Willow to lay her cards on the table, Drew did it for her and told Michael's parents that all they had to do was give Willow her kids back so they could see their own son. Whether Carly was right or wrong to have Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) take the kids, Willow's willingness to do whatever Drew said disturbed fans the most.
Willow's dream man...or worst nightmare?
It's not lost on fans that Willow grew up in a cult and was once enamored by Dawn of Day leader Shiloh (Coby Ryan McLaughlin). Before the explosion that set him on fire, Michael relayed his concerns to Sonny. Did Willow still have that cult mentality? Is that why she molds herself to be whoever a man wants her to be?
Fans took notice when Drew told Willow that Carly was trying to emotionally manipulate her, which only seemed like a projection on Drew's part. Even Carly pointed it out.
"I know Drew didn’t just say Carly is manipulating Willow!!!," X (formerly Twitter) user @TVFan43 shared, along with a video clip of that moment. "I know HE didn’t just say that. Fool you are Shiloh 2.0 you are the manipulator."
@Coltongirlhardt echoed that sentiment but elaborated on the notion that Drew is just like Willow's former cult leader.
"How Drew talked to Willow today set off all the Shiloh 2.0 alarms," they tweeted. "She is so blindly devoted. Every time she tries to think for herself, he whispers in her ear like a siren, and she converts back. This is NOT a love story. Danger is ahead for her when the spell is broken."
While fans are disturbed by Willow allowing Drew to take over her life, they are even more disturbed by Drew's methods and attitude regarding Willow.
"The fact that Drew won’t let Willow talk to anyone without him watching is actually kind of scary," @port_misery wrote. "Sis is in an abusive relationship and don’t even know it."
General Hospital fans wonder about Willow
Not only did Willow let Drew think for her and speak for her, but when she got what she wanted, she thanked Drew and not the person who truly helped her.
It was Nina (Cynthia Watros) who took Sonny aside for a rational talk about Willow and Michael's children. Drew wasn't anywhere near Sonny when the decision was made to return the kids to Nina's apartment. However, Willow flew into Drew's arms and thanked him when he got the news, not her mother, the person who really did the dirty work.
"Wow. Nina convinced Sonny to give the kids back to Willow and instead of showing Nina an ounce of grace or gratitude, she turns to Drew," Blue Sky user @lakeeriemermaid wrote.
After Willow ran straight into Drew's arms, she walked right out of the hospital with him without even seeing Michael...after using her medical proxy power to lord over his parents.
"Willow claims to love Michael," @KathyRe0916 tweeted. "But hasn’t even been to his room to see what kind of condition he’s even in…(Makes time to hug Drew though.)"
GH might have thought it was creating an "us against the world" love story with Drew and Willow, but to fans, it seems to only come across as selfish and disturbing. Is this story headed down a darker path? Time will tell...
