General Hospital's Ric Lansing is in pretty serious condition after a car crash, with his prognosis up in the air. That has fans hoping that the longtime popular character doesn't die. If the soap does kill off Ric, many fans theorize his death could help his brother live.
A Tell-tale heart
As GH fans know, Sonny (Maurice Benard) has been delaying a simple heart surgery until he can make sure his family is safe from the latest big bad trying to kill him. During this time, his condition seems to be getting worse. The attacks are happening more frequently, and the more Sonny postpones his surgery, the more damage is done.
Is this surgery delay just a plot device so that Sonny will need a heart transplant? Might his new heart come from his brother, who has spent more time as Sonny's enemy than his friend through the years? There is no love lost between Adela Corinthos' sons, so one of them getting the other one's heart would certainly be ironic — and extremely unpopular with fans.
General Hospital fans want Ric to live
Would GH really sacrifice another popular character in an organ donor story when it just told a similar tale last fall when Sam (Kelly Moanco) was killed after donating part of her liver to Lulu (Alexa Havins)? It seems preposterous, but that is what some fans believe will happen — and they aren't happy about it at all.
"#GH is really going there aren't they?" asked @LeslieB_68 on X (formerly Twitter). "They're letting Ric die to save Sonny. Ugh! Sonny should have just had the darn surgery. Sonny put it off, and that's on him."
"Ugh, if they kill off Ric so that Sonny, who was never on a transplant list & only needed a surgery that could wait a few months, could get his heart, I will rage," tweeted @tifffb.
The idea of Ric (Rick Hearst) dying so Sonny can get his heart is so toxic to fans that they are ready to stop watching altogether.
"I swear if they kill Ric to save Sonny’s life, I might actually give up the show forever," said @DVJohnsen on X.

For now, Ric is in stable condition, but Lucas (Van Hansis) is not sure how long that will last. He has prepared Molly (Kristen Vaganos) for the worst and the chance that she could lose her father. If Ric dies, will Molly consent to save the uncle she resents by using her dad's heart?
