Near the Somalian border, Lucky was escorted into a cell where a poker table had been set up. Sidwell instructed the guard to remove Lucky’s handcuffs. After Lucky was seated, Sidwell set a deck of cards on the table and invited Lucky to deal. The two men discussed the stakes of the game. Lucky proposed being let free if he won, but Sidwell chuckled. “How about if you win, you stay alive,” Sidwell offered.
As the game began, Lucky struck up a conversation with Sidwell. Sidwell shared that he suffered from insomnia because of an “exceptional woman” he had met in Monte Carlo who was beautiful, charming, and elegant. Lucky suddenly recalled dancing with Elizabeth during their younger years. “Thinking of a lady of your own?” Sidwell asked. Lucky admitted that the woman he’d been thinking of hadn’t been to Monte Carlo, but she was beautiful.
“Yeah, my lady’s what I’d call a winner,” Lucky said. Lucky continued to win hand after hand, which surprised Sidwell because he hadn’t caught Lucky cheating. Lucky suggested that they change the stakes of the game, but Sidwell rejected the idea. Lucky pointed out that his luck would eventually run out, so Sidwell advised Lucky to find a way to beat the odds.
A short time later, a woman entered the room. “Well, if it isn’t the very reason for my insomnia,” Sidwell said. “Hello, darling,” Holly Sutton replied. Lucky hid his surprise as he looked up and locked eyes with Holly.

At the Port Charles Surf Lodge, Brick approached Jordan’s table. She thanked him for meeting her, so he confessed that he’d been expecting her call. Jordan conceded that she owed Brick a date, but she explained that she had reached out to him because she needed help identifying a patient at General Hospital. Jordan showed Brick a photograph of Isaiah and revealed that “John Doe” had been a victim of a hit-and-run on a remote stretch of Route 41.
Brick advised Jordan to wait for the man to wake up, but she didn’t want to wait. Brick was curious why it was so important, so she shared that John Doe had been found on a remote stretch of road, and she suspected someone had been chasing him. Brick asked if Jordan ever thought about getting back into law enforcement. “Sometimes,” she admitted. She quickly turned the tables and asked about Brick’s past.
Brick was vague, but he shared that he’d been in the military, followed by a stint in a “three-letter agency,” where he’d grown disillusioned because too much power in the wrong hands was dangerous. According to Brick, he’d struck out on his own because he had more control over who he worked with and what he did. “So, you break laws left and right, but you have a code,” Jordan remarked. Brick admitted that she was partly right. “I have a code,” he said.
Brick announced that he had to cut the evening short because he had a lot of work to do if he was going to identify John Doe. When Jordan offered to make it up to him, Brick asked if she was truly interested in going out on a date with him. She admitted that she was, so they agreed to make plans for a real date.
In Drew’s office, Drew opened up to Curtis about McConkey’s death and how hard it had hit him. Drew explained that it had made him think about Alan and growing up without a father. When Drew shared that Willow had been there for him, Curtis asked Drew to clarify what that meant. “Willow and I kissed,” Drew confessed.
Drew insisted that he felt awful because Michael was his nephew, and Willow was the mother of Michael’s children; however, he didn’t know how to fix things. Curtis suggested that Drew chalk it up to an emotional moment that had gotten out of hand. “But it’s more than that,” Drew said. Drew revealed that he and Willow had grown close, and there was an attraction between them that kept getting stronger. Drew shared that he felt like he’d taken advantage of Willow’s gratitude, but Curtis argued that Drew had put his own life on the line to bring Willow’s “donor” back to Willow.
Curtis assured Drew that Drew had earned his place on the pedestal that Willow had put Drew on. Drew admitted that he liked the way it made him feel being someone’s hero, but he promised that he admired Willow as much as she admired him. Curtis suggested that the worst was behind Drew and Willow because they had gotten things out of their system. “Before today, I might have agreed with you,” Drew confessed.
According to Drew, the kiss had been more than two people caught up in the moment because there had been real feelings. “And I can’t deny them anymore,” Drew said. Curtis reminded Drew that feelings weren’t actions or betrayals, and he advised Drew to let things go. Drew agreed not to act on his feelings for Willow again. “That won’t happen. Ever,” Drew declared.
Meanwhile, Mac entered Robert’s office. “Merry Christmas,” Mac announced. “It’s September,” Robert reminded his brother. “There was a murder at the Quartermaine mansion,” Mac revealed as he dropped a file on Robert’s desk and told him about John’s murder. Robert opened up the file and smiled when he saw that Sonny was the prime suspect.
Mac reminded Robert that Robin would need to be told because Robin and John had been good friends at one time. Robert agreed, but Mac offered to break the news to his niece. “It’s my job. I’ll be the bad cop on this one,” Mac said. When the conversation turned to John, Robert and Mac agreed that John had lost his way. Mac pointed out that it was one thing to go after Sonny, but John had tortured Kristina.
Mac went over the witness statements, including Cody’s—Cody had been in the stables but hadn’t heard anything. Mac suggested the killer had used a silencer, and the storm had muffled the shooting. Robert admitted that he didn’t consider Cody a reliable witness because Cody had taken a year to reveal that Mac was Cody’s father. Mac insisted that life was too short to hold a grudge against family, and he reminded Robert that Cody had saved James’s life. Mac was also quick to point out that Robert had loved at least two women with colorful pasts.
On the footbridge, Alexis paced as she waited for Diane to answer her call. When the call went to voicemail, Alexis explained that she had a client who “may or may not have” violated the terms of their bail. Alexis demanded that Diane return her call within five minutes, or Alexis would have to take action. After the call, Alexis looked at the gun she had found in Kristina’s bag. She continued to pace and breathe heavily with anxiety as she waited for Diane to call.
After five minutes, Alexis tossed the gun into the water below and turned to leave, but she froze when she saw Elizabeth and Ric standing at the end of the bridge. “You startled me,” Alexis nervously said. Ric glanced over the railing. “What brings you out tonight?” he carefully asked.
Alexis claimed that she had stepped out for fresh air because she’d been stressed. “I think we just witnessed you littering,” Ric said. Alexis insisted that she’d gotten frustrated with her glitchy phone and tossed it into the water. After Alexis left, Ric asked if the object had looked like a phone to Elizabeth. “No. That was definitely a gun,” she replied.
Ric suspected the gun involved one of Alexis’ daughters, but he hoped it wasn’t Molly. He also realized that they had witnessed something that they shouldn’t have. Concerned, Elizabeth asked Ric what they should do.
In Robert’s office, Robert called Holly, but it went to voicemail. He admitted that he’d been thinking about her, and he hoped that she’d been staying out of trouble. He asked Holly to return his call just as Alexis entered his office. After he ended the call, Alexis explained that she wanted to talk to him about John. Alexis was stunned when Robert revealed that John had been shot dead.
At Alexis’ house, Kristina entered the living room and called out to her mother. When she was met with silence, she reached for her bag, only to realize the gun was missing. Alarmed, Kristina looked around the living room.
At the gatehouse, Michael and Willow entered their bedroom. As Willow removed her earrings, Michael asked if she was okay. She confessed that she was still shaky, so he offered to fetch her a cup of tea, a nightcap, or an ice cream sundae. Willow declined, but she thanked him for looking out for her. Michael assured her that it was part of being a husband.
“Michael, there’s something I want to tell you,” Willow blurted out. She opened up about Drew’s reaction to McConkey’s death and how she’d seen a side of Drew that she hadn’t seen before. As she talked, Michael’s phone rang. He glanced at the screen and decided to let it go to voicemail. Willow continued with her confession about wanting to comfort Drew, but Michael’s phone rang again.
When Michael mentioned that it was Kristina again, Willow urged him to answer it. Kristina explained that she needed to see Michael right away. “It’s bad, Michael. Please, just come here,” she said. Michael asked what was going on. “I’m missing a gun,” Kristina said.
After Michael left, Willow changed for bed. She picked up a photograph of her and Michael on their wedding day and began to cry. Later, she fell asleep, but she was awoken by Michael’s tender touch as he joined her in bed and began to make love to her. However, Michael suddenly turned into Drew. Willow bolted awake and realized that she was alone.
At Alexis’ house, Kristina told Michael that her gun had vanished. Michael wondered if Alexis might have found it and put it away. “I hope so,” Kristina nervously said. When Michael asked where Kristina had gotten the gun, she confessed that she had taken it from their father’s penthouse. Confused, he asked why she had taken the gun. “To get justice,” she admitted.
Kristina revealed that she had intended to use the gun on Ava and John, but she’d gone to the cemetery instead. She was surprised when Michael told her that John had been killed. Kristina assured him that she hadn’t shot the agent, so Michael assured her that he believed her. Kristina wondered if their father might have killed John, but Michael reminded her that John had made a lot of enemies.
At the police station, Diane entered the squad room and greeted Anna. Anna led Diane to the interrogation room, where Diane’s client was waiting. Diane glanced at Ava, who was seated next to Jason. “Commissioner, may I have a word with my client and his plus one?” Diane asked. After Anna left, Diane made it clear that she was there for Jason, and Ava was on her own. To Diane’s surprise, Jason asked Diane to help Ava, too.
Ava admitted that she was concerned because she hadn’t heard from Scott in a while, but Diane was unmoved. However, Ava insisted that an attorney shouldn’t have been necessary because Ava and Jason hadn’t done anything wrong. Ava revealed that Jason had stopped Agent Boyle from murdering her. Diane remained reluctant to help Ava, but Jason asked Diane to reconsider. “Why should I do that, Jason—even for you?” Diane asked. Jason explained that he and Ava could prove everything.
Later, Anna listened as Ava revealed that John had coerced her to make a false statement, and Ava further disclosed what had transpired when he had taken her into protective custody. Ava opened up about finding the money in Agent Boyle’s bag and how the agent had struck someone on the road as they'd driven to the Pine Barrens. Jason added that he had found the injured man on the side of the road, called 9-1-1, and tracked Agent Boyle and Ava down.
After Anna checked out Jason and Ava’s stories, she returned to the interrogation room. Ava was eager to leave, but she feared running into John. “Agent Cates is dead,” Anna said. “Good riddance,” Ava replied. Ava reminded Anna that John had intended for Agent Boyle to kill her, but Anna revealed that Linda Boyle hadn’t been the woman’s name, nor was she an agent with the FBI. According to Anna, the woman posing as an agent had a long criminal record and was considered dangerous.
After Ava left, Anna asked for a moment alone with Jason. Diane was reluctant to leave, but Jason assured Diane that it would be fine. Once they were alone, Anna praised Jason for calling the police. Jason explained that it had made more sense than the alternative, so Anna asked what he knew about John’s murder. Jason denied any knowledge of the crime. Anna conceded that John had gone bad, and a lot of people had wanted the agent dead.
Anna acknowledged that Jason was in the clear. “Sonny is not,” she added. “What about you?” Jason asked. He noticed that Anna didn’t seem upset about John’s murder. Anna admitted that John had been a good man at one time, but something had gone wrong. However, she reminded Jason that John had been an FBI agent, so his killer would go to prison for life.
At Sonny’s penthouse, Sonny invited Carly to make herself at home, but she warned him that she didn’t intend to stay. Sonny reminded Carly that they had to get their stories straight because the police would be there in the morning. “I know where I was when John Cates was murdered. Where were you?” she asked. Sonny insisted that all that mattered was that “Jagger” was dead and could no longer go after Kristina.
Carly scolded Sonny for implying that they’d had a tryst. Sonny apologized, but she reminded him that they were divorced. She asked why he had blindsided her and gone through the trouble of making it appear that they’d had sex. When Sonny remained silent, she realized that Sonny had given himself an alibi for the time of John’s death. Sonny reminded Carly that he couldn’t confirm her suspicions. “We’re not married anymore. We don’t have spousal privilege,” he said.
Sonny explained that he couldn’t answer Carly’s questions unless she was willing to marry him. “I’m going to be really clear. I’m not marrying you,” Carly told him. She warned him that they still had to deal with a federal murder investigation, but Sonny didn’t care because Kristina was safe. “I’m going to be in the crosshairs, no one else,” Sonny insisted. “No one else except for your alibi, and that’s me,” Carly argued.
Sonny and Carly agreed that they would claim they had reconnected earlier in the day when Carly had stopped by for a visit with Donna, and they had shared a kiss in the rain when Carly had walked him to the car after dinner. “It was sweet and nostalgic, and we made love,” Carly suggested.
When Carly mentioned going home, Sonny pointed out that it might look better for the police to find her there in the morning. Reluctantly, Carly agreed, but she was adamant that she would sleep in the guest room. After Carly disappeared down the hall, Sonny noticed the door to his gun cabinet was ajar. He pulled out the gun safe, keyed in the code, and quickly discovered that one of his guns was missing. “Son of a bitch,” Sonny growled.
