Parental problems: General Hospital's Giovanni Mazza has the scoop on Gio's folks

Since his introduction to the Port Charles scene last spring, General Hospital's Gio Palmeri has not had much to do and has just become that best guy friend that college students Josslyn (Eden McCoy) and Trina (Tabyana Ali) love having around. However, all of that is about to change and actor Giovanni Mazza couldn't be more excited.

As far as the audience knows, Gio is just the son of the Cerullo and Falconeri families' friend, and another kid that's not his that Sonny (Maurice Benard) is putting through college. (Remember when he paid for TJ Ashford's college?) Now an orphan, Gio is living in the Quartermaine mansion (along with half the town), practicing his violin, and getting to know Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) better than ever before.

Gio also just met a girl he can't get off his mind. It looks as if Emma Scorpio Drake (Braedyn Bruner) is about to become his love interest after a chance encounter in Rice Plaza where she swiped a man's wallet. During their next meeting, Emma swiped Gio's phone, so she could certainly keep him on his toes.

With Gio's love life heating up, it also appears that GH is about to delve into his backstory, including who his parents really are.

Fans have suspected for a while that Brook Lynn was pregnant as a teen and gave her child up for adoption. Brook Lynn confirmed that theory recently, leading viewers to believe Gio is the son she gave up. While Mazza can't give away too much, he loves teasing fans, family, and friends with what little he can say.

"What's really fun is when my family asks what I think," Mazza said in an interview with Too Fab. "One of my cousins just texted me the other day. He's like, 'Is so-and-so your parents?' And I'm like, 'What do you think? I want to know what you think first.' And then I'll know what I could play into."

Mazza also loves seeing what fans think. Perhaps they are right that Brook Lynn is his mom. Then again, we can all be on the wrong track.

"And it sort of helps me in a way to know what the fan speculation is, to sort of play around with different relationships," Mazza said.

If Brook Lynn does turn out to be Gio's mom, we still have another hanging question — who is his dad? So far the contenders seem to be Cody (Josh Kelly) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), who were both at camp with Brook Lynn the summer her baby was conceived. With February sweeps on its way, maybe we'll get our answer then.
