General Hospital's John J. York is back in action as Mac Scorpio

John J. York is back at work and ready to give General Hospital a Mac attack

Sometimes Fridays can bring the best news, and that is exactly what General Hospital fans got on May 10. The soap's official social media accounts shared photos of John J. York posing outside the studio with co-stars Kristina Wagner (Felicia Scorpio) and Josh Kelly (Cody Bell).

The caption simply read, "Mac is back!" as does the T-shirt York is wearing in the joyful snaps.

York, who has been bringing Mac Scorpio to life on GH since 1991, shocked fans when he announced a cancer diagnosis last fall. He was suffering from two forms of blood cancer, myelodysplastic syndrome and multiple smoldering myeloma, and needed a stem cell transplant.

He began the stem cell treatment in November with a positive outlook.

"There's still a long road ahead, but these next 100 days I would say is rocky terrain," York told People at the time. "It's literally a whole new ballgame from then on. From what I understand - this is kind of how I received the information - has been like pre-game and practice."

In December, the actor shared an update on his condition in a video posted to X. "I have a long road ahead, but the test results are looking good; I'm feeling really good," he said. "Hopefully, hopefully, if things go the way they are, maybe [I'll] be back on the show late spring, early summer."

It looks like York's hopes have been realized, as the timing is just right for a Mac summer return. His absence has been explained by cop Mac being off in Argentina on some sort of mystery mission. Now it looks like his much-welcomed Port Charles and GH comeback is imminent, and we couldn't be happier.

Is it a relief to know York is recovered enough to work again? Have you missed Mac Scorpio in Port Charles? We want to hear from you -- so drop your comments in the Comments section below, tweet about it on Twitter, share it on Facebook, or chat about it on our Message Boards.
