After more than two years, Steve Burton's General Hospital comeback as Jason Morgan is imminent. Sonny now has Spinelli aboard to go after his mysterious enemy.
Burton left the soap in November 2021 when he chose not to comply with ABC/Disney's COVID-19 vaccine mandate, so Jason had to be "killed" again. He had already "died" in 2012 when he was shot and kicked into the river, but he returned in 2017. This time, Jason was buried beneath the rubble after an explosion in the Cassadine Island tunnels. His family declared him dead within weeks, despite his remains never being found.
Now that ABC has dropped its vaccine mandate, Burton is back and makes his latest on-screen debut on Monday, March 4. On his first day back on set on February 5, Burton gave a vague preview of what's to come.
"So, listen... I got to talk to the head writers, this story is going to be sick," he teased in a video made for Daily Drama. "It's gonna be awesome. So, make sure you keep watching, because the pieces of the puzzle are gonna be fit."
The puzzle he's referring to seems to be Sonny's latest threat. The mobster is trying to figure out who tried shooting him last summer and recently in Puerto Rico. He knows the person is going by the name Stone, but he also knows Stone Cates is dead.
Of course, that person could be Stone Cold, Spinelli's name for Jason. With Spinelli helping Sonny suss out the person gunning for various PC crime lords, it's a pretty good bet that Jason is trying to kill Sonny. We just have to figure out why.
Thanks to a preview photo published in People magazine, we now know Jason's return will be a bloody one. He appears to have a gunshot wound in the shot, as well as blood on his hands. Does he get caught in the crossfire before Sonny learns he is after his not-so-dead BFF and enforcer?
Another question also remains -- who will Jason be paired with once he is firmly back? When GH announced Burton's return on its primetime special, General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars and Stories, he walked through a smoky door to be greeted by Laura Wright and Kelly Monaco.
Was the show trying to tell us a Carly/Jason/Sam triangle is coming, or was that just to throw us all off? Liason fans hope that Elizabeth will be in the mix, as well.
