General Hospital's Sonny Corinthos will be regaining his memory any day now, and portrayer Maurice Benard says there are going to be fireworks upon the mobster's return to Port Charles.
Boy, oh boy, have things gotten complicated for General Hospital's Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) -- he just doesn't know it yet! The character is living the good life in Nixon Falls as an amnesiac named Mike who is falling in love with Nina (Cynthia Watros). But as fans of the ABC soap opera know... that's all about to blow up in the mobster's face!
Not only is Nina deceiving Sonny by keeping the truth about his identity secret, but the character might also be in for a doozy when he regains his memory and possibly finds out that his wife, Carly (Laura Wright), married Jason (Steve Burton). If the wedding does indeed happen, Benard says Sonny will not be quick to forgive the pair, even if they believed Sonny to be dead and even if their intentions were to keep the family's power within the mob.
"The thing about Sonny is that it's what Sonny does best, or what I do playing him best, is betrayal," the actor explains in an interview with Michael Fairman TV. "So, for him, this is not a good thing. I would assume he's just going to go, 'What the...' and all hell is going to break loose."

The actor, who recently took home his third Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series during the 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, goes on to tease that it might get very, very ugly between his longtime alter ego and those he loves most.
"It's going to be a great fight when Sonny does return," Benard previews, adding, "However it goes, I would say, just let [the fans] watch the fireworks as they unfold."
