General Hospital actor Réal Andrews shares that he is cancer free

Réal Andrews (Marcus Taggert) has shared some news that will no doubt make his fans' holidays a little more merry and bright: the General Hospital actor is currently cancer free.

Soap opera fans have been worrying about General Hospital actor Ral Andrews since late November, when news broke that the ABC soap opera briefly recast the role of Marcus Taggert with actor Asante Jones. The immediate worry was that Andrews was possibly suffering from health issues, as he has battled cancer in his past. Fortunately, however, the actor says that is not the case, and he is currently cancer free.

Andrews took to Instagram with a video message that acknowledges everyone's worries about his health. "First and foremost, I just got my results back for my year check-in, and yes, I was very happy, I am absolutely cancer free," he shares. "I am probably in the best shape of my life, okay? So, I appreciate all your prayers and support and everything."

The actor adds that he decided to share the update because he didn't want the rumors about his health to "go sideways" -- and, of course, because the positive check-up was exciting news.

As Soap Central previously reported, Andrews had to have cancer surgery just before Christmas last year, but he kept a positive attitude through the trying time. For more on that and to see photos of the actor dressed in a Santa suit during his hospital stay, click here.

At this time, it's still unclear why General Hospital recast the role of Taggert. It's also unclear when -- or even if -- Andrews will return to the role. Many fans asked him about his GH status in the comments section of his Instagram post, but the actor has chosen to keep mum about his future with the ABC soap opera for now. So, it looks like fans will have to ask Santa to bring him back to Port Charles -- and hope they've been well-behaved enough this year to make it happen!

In addition to playing GH's Taggert, Andrews is known for his roles as Hal Michaels on Days of our Lives, Walker Daniels on As the World Turns, and Agent Trumball on All My Children.
