Maurice Benard says bringing Vanessa Marcil back to General Hospital is a "no-brainer"

Want instant drama and ratings? Bring back Vanessa Marcil as General Hospital's Brenda Barrett, says Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos).

General Hospital's Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) knows a thing or two about what audiences want, seeing as how he's been a fan-favorite soap opera actor for over three decades. And one thing he's sure about is that the return of Vanessa Marcil as Sonny's lover, Brenda Barrett, would be a power move for the ABC soap opera.

In an interview with Soaps In Depth, Benard says that if he'd had his say, "she would have been back about five years ago. She brings ratings, and if you put two and two together, that's four. So, if you bring her back, it's a no-brainer."

That kind of opinion may get CarSon fans riled up, but the actor says he isn't choosing Brenda over Sonny's current wife, Carly (Laura Wright). Rather, he's pointing out the awesome storyline opportunities that Brenda's return could bring, especially with Ingo Rademacher back in the role of Jasper Jacks.

"You [brought] back Jax, then you got Brenda, and you got a whole cool thing going on," Benard says.

With GH still on hiatus due to the coronavirus situation, there's presumably nothing in the works as far as character returns go. But fans can look forward to an entire week dedicated to throwback episodes filled with memorable Sonny and Carly moments.
