General Hospital alum Bryan Craig (ex-Morgan Corinthos) dishes on the similarities between the ABC soap and his primetime series Grand Hotel -- including which character is just like his former TV pop, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).
Fans of General Hospital were crushed when Bryan Craig decided to walk away from the role of Morgan Corinthos in 2018, but the good news is that the Emmy winner feels that his new character on ABC's Grand Hotel is a lot like his former Port Charles alter ego.
Craig portrays playboy rebel Javi Mendoza on the Eva Longoria-produced primetime series, which takes a super soapy look at the professional and personal lives of people working at a family-run hotel in Miami Beach. And the actor tells MEAWW that there's a lot of Morgan in his new role.
"They have a lot of similarities actually. Both are troubled in their own ways. Both are at odds with their fathers and both have addictions," he surmises. "Although they have these things in common, they are very different people from very different walks of life."

But the similarities between General Hospital and Grand Hotel don't stop there. Craig thinks that viewers will see a lot of comparable elements between the Corinthos clan and his new TV family, the Mendozas.
"Both are very powerful families and both have a lot of secrets. The families also come from a lot of money," he shares, adding that the Mendoza family patriarch, Santiago (Demin Bichir) is a character that GH fans will no doubt enjoy. "I find Santiago and Sonny to have the most similarities."
As Soap Central has reported in the past, Grand Hotel's most exciting soapy element is its cast. In addition to Craig, the primetime sudser boasts cast members like All My Children alum Denise Tontz (ex-Miranda Montgomery), GH alum Richard Burgi (ex-Paul Hornsby), and former The Young and the Restless star Eva Longoria (ex-Isabella Brana), who also executive produces the series.
The more viewers Grand Hotel can attract, the better. The show's future remains unclear. Earlier this month, ABC's President of Entertainment, Karey Burke, revealed that the network had not yet decided if Grand Hotel will see a second season.
"We're going to wait until the end of its run. It's a show we like a lot. It's a show that I wish the ratings were a bit stronger, but we'll make that decision after its run," Burke said.
Grand Hotel airs Monday nights on ABC. Check your local listings for more information.
