Genie Francis on the scary GH story that "makes for good television"

General Hospital's Genie Francis (Laura Spencer) dishes on the autumn storyline that will have many viewers of the ABC soap opera shakin' in their boots.

Nothing screams autumn like a spooky sociopath story, and General Hospital has that particular type of spook coming to viewers in spades. October has seen the rise of psychopath Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom), who has taken over the identity of his twin brother, Kevin, and is set to terrorize the residents of Port Charles in unimaginable ways. The juicy drama ahead is exactly what viewers need this fall -- or so says beloved GH star Genie Francis (Laura Spencer).

"A story with a good sociopath can be so scary," she tells TV Insider. "People love those crime dramas. Look at how many there are. It makes for good television."

Part of the reason the Ryan storyline is working so well is that portrayer Jon Lindstrom is giving his heart and soul to each and every scene -- a fact that hasn't escaped Francis, who is thrilled to be working with her longtime costar in such a fantastic story.

"It's a tough one to do," she says of Lindstrom's twin challenge. "I like that he doesn't ham it up at all. There's a temptation there with each of these guys. Their hearts are different. He's not going [big]. I like that. It feels more real to me. Definitely, more real. I ask him all the time if he's having fun and he says he is. Nobody deserves it more than he does."

That being said, the actress is hoping that when the dust settles, Laura and Kevin can have a proper go at a strong, healthy relationship. Because, as she points out, they're perfect for each other.

"They've both been through a lot. They're an older couple so they both know what they want," she explains. "Sometimes when you get to a point in life you think you're going to be alone from here on in. To find each other and what you want in someone at this time is precious. It makes every day special. Laura gives him a stability that he never could have gotten from Lucy [Lynn Herring] because [laughs] Lucy was never stable!"
