General Hospital is breaking from several of its ongoing stories to give Mara West's Ava Jerome a powerful stand-alone episode.
Many of General Hospital's front-burner storylines are coming to a halt this Wednesday, January 17, in order to give an emotionally tense episode centered on Ava Jerome (Maura West) the dramatic presentation it deserves.
Ava will be undergoing surgery to heal her remaining facial scars that day, and the mood is said to be absolutely nail-biting.
"It's a break from the day in and day out of multiple stories," notes Nathan Varni, ABC's manager of current series. "And Maura can do absolutely anything!"

Though the episode puts Ava's drama front and center, the red carpet isn't solely for her. Varni reveals that characters from the show's past could appear, as well.
"Anything and anybody can show up in this special episode," he teases.
As soap fans may recall, NBC's Days of our Lives -- written by former GH head writer Ron Carlivati -- also recently aired a stand-alone episode. The powerful drama-filled hour featured a very depressed J.J. Deveraux (Casey Moss) contemplating suicide.
