WATCH: GH star Kelly Thiebaud's intense trailer for Every 21 Seconds

Check out General Hospital alum Kelly Thiebaud (ex-Britt Westbourne) in the dramatic teaser trailer for her new film, Every 21 Seconds.

Kelly Thiebaud certainly played her fair share of intense drama during her stint as General Hospital's Britt Westbourne from 2012 to 2015. And she's back in high gear for her new film, Every 21 Seconds.

The gut-wrenching drama, based on a book of the same name, follows the true story of TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) survivor Brian Sweeney. Says the official teaser: "A happy, loving and successful man is brutally attacked in a case of mistaken identity that results in a severe TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). As he attempts to recover against seemingly overwhelming odds, he must find the strength to survive and become the husband and father he once was. Led by his amazing wife, his family and friends do their best to stay together and provide the support needed. During his recovery, he finds a common bond with the unlikeliest of people, a brash and somewhat unhinged Marine Veteran."

The title of the inspirational film comes from the fact that every twenty-one seconds in America, a traumatic brain injury occurs and changes someone's life forever. In fact, according to the film's official website, TBI is the number one cause of death and/or disability in people between the ages of one and forty-four.

"Every 21 Seconds chronicles the hidden complexities experienced after traumatic brain injury, as can only be told a survivor," says James A. Young, M.D., Chairperson, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois. "Mr. Sweeney describes the roller coaster ride' from the time of injury to the present, involving himself, family, friends and employers. The misunderstandings, biases, and injustices are clearly described along with wonderful insights to his abilities and disabilities. His struggle is a guide to patients and those who love and care for those individuals affected by brain injury."
