General Hospital alum Vanessa Marcil (ex-Brenda Barrett) shares love and appreciation for her former costar Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) for helping her through an extremely difficult period in her life.
General Hospital fans will forever and always remember the strong connection between lovers Sonny and Brenda, and it seems the connection between the characters' portrayers -- Maurice Benard and Vanessa Marcil -- is also special and long lasting. In fact, Marcil recently took to social media to share her love and appreciation for her dear friend.
The actress lost her father last week, and she posted a very moving message on Instagram that gives thanks to Benard for giving her the strength to reunite with her father, whom she hadn't been in contact with for many years.
"@MauriceBenard was handed a bigger job than he was expecting. A brutally abused young girl. He picked me up, healed my heart & mended by broken wings so that I could fly away from him. Yes, a father," she writes. "Because of the extra work Mo put in, I was able to forgive my father & break a chain that changed my life & the lives of my children. I forgave my dad because my tiny heart could finally take it after MO patched it back together. Look at this pic of us. Sonny was Brenda's daddy. Beautiful scared child..."

Benard got wind of Marcil's beautiful message and was clearly moved by her powerful words.
"Wow I truly don't know what to say," he wrote. "I'm touched and moved. And you know I will always be here for U."
Marcil joined GH in 1992, but left in 1998 to pursue other projects. She made a brief return to the soap from 2002 to 2003 and won a Daytime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category for her work during that time. Her most recent roles are in the television movies The Convenient Groom and The Wrong Mother.
