Maurice Benard cops a role in Lifetime's A Lover Betrayed

General Hospital's Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) turns in an arresting performance in Lifetime's A Lover Betrayed.

For 24 years, Maurice Benard has been known to General Hospital fans as, ahem, renowned coffee importer Sonny Corinthos. This weekend, though, fans will get to see the Emmy-winning actor in a very different role: police officer.

Benard will star in the Lifetime movie A Lover Betrayed. The movie premieres Saturday, September 9, at 8pm ET/7pm CT on the Lifetime Movies channel. It will be rebroadcast several hours later on Sunday, September 10, at midnight.

The irony of playing a cop isn't lost on Benard, who told a fan on Twitter "you'll get a kick out of me playing a cop."

Here is what viewers can expect from A Lover Betrayed: Five years after her son was killed, Tess Ford is ready to live again. But a one-night romance with a handsome soldier throws her life back into chaos as the young man's attraction turns out to be -- wait for it! -- a frightening obsession.

It wouldn't be a Lifetime movie without a crazed stalker. All My Children alum Jamie Luner (ex-Liza Colby) headlines as Tess. Jason Brooks and Brent Antonello also star in the film.

Benard will be doing some press to promote A Lover Betrayed. If you are in the Los Angeles area, you can catch him on Good Day L.A. (Thursday, September 7) and KTLA (Friday, September 8). Check your local listings for the time and channel in your area.

If either of the networks posts video of Benard's appearance, we'll be sure to post them here. In the meantime, check out the preview for A Lover Betrayed.
