Word on the street is that General Hospital's Sonny (Maurice Benard) has finally met his maker, but are the rumors really true?
General Hospital's Maurice Benard has had more lives than a cat, but it looks like his luck may have finally ended. The mobster is currently fighting for his life after a dramatic moment with Sam, and fans are now worried that portrayer Sonny Corinthos will be the next actor to leave the ABC soap. But should viewers be worried?
Though things look quite dire for Sonny at the moment, Benard took to Instagram to reassure fans that the near-death experience is strictly for story purposes.
"Did someone say Sonny on GH is dying?" he jokes. "If he does, I'm coming after you."

Benard jumped onto the canvas of GH back in 1993 and quickly became a fan favorite character. Over the years, Sonny has been shot, stabbed, strangled, poisoned, beaten up, blown up, and divorced and seen more than his fair share of nights in the doghouse -- and he's still living to tell about it. Here's hoping he'll experience far more than that in the years to come and still be standing tall.
Are you relieved to hear Benard's Sonny isn't going anywhere? Did you fear Sonny really could be dying? We want to hear from you -- so drop your comments in the Comments section below, tweet about it on Twitter, share it on Facebook, or chat about it on our Message Boards.
