Duke may be deader than a doornail (at least for now), but that isn't stopping him and his portrayer, Ian Buchanan, from making a General Hospital return.
While the rest of the entertainment world is buzzing about the new Ghostbusters trailer, the soap opera community is buzzing about an exciting specter-related bit of news of its own: the return of Ian Buchanan in the role of General Hospital's late Duke Lavery.
It's been a year since news of Buchanan's exit broke, and now Soap Opera Digest reports that Buchanan is bringing back his alter ego, who was shot in cold blood last spring, for several episodes -- albeit in ghost form.
"I wasn't quite sure what it meant when I was told that I would be an apparition, but I felt like, 'Well, that's fine. I can do that. I can be apparitious!'" the actor jokes of his scenes, which will be with Finola Hughes (Duke's former lover, Anna Devane). "And it was great; I had a great time. But it was bittersweet, of course."

As for the reveal that Dr. Griffin Munro (Matt Cohen) is actually Duke's son, Buchanan says it has played out beautifully. "I saw the scenes he did with Finola when it was revealed he was Duke's son and I think it's a really nicely told story," he opines. "They're great together."
Watch for Buchanan's return to the canvas beginning next week, and check out the complete interview with Buchanan in the latest edition of Soap Opera Digest.
